Volunteer Activities

MedShare.  This year SIOP volunteers will participate in a service project with MedShare which is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. SIOP members will be able to volunteer through the online conference registration process.  The project will take place on the Sunday after the conference (morning to early afternoon).  A registration fee of $20 will be used to cover expenses and any remaining funds will be donated to MedShare.

MedShare is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the environment and healthcare through the efficient recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment to underserved healthcare facilities in developing countries.  They provide critical medical supplies following natural disasters, and are currently very involved in providing assistance in Haiti.  They are a top ranked charity that has provided medical supplies and equipment to bring healing and the promise of better lives to patients in 80 countries around the world.

Volunteers will be transported via bus Sunday morning to the MedShare warehouse facility where they will be involved in facilitating the sorting and distribution of medical supplies and equipment.  Volunteers will be provided a snack during the project and a bus will return them to the Hilton.  Buses will depart the Hilton at 8:00 am and will return to the Hilton no later than 1:00 pm.

Donate to “The House that SIOP Built.”  The “Make it Right” organization collects donations to build homes in the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans for those who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina.  SIOP is sponsoring the building of a home with donations from our members.  Click here: https://atl.etapestry.com/fundraiser/MakeItRightFoundation/teamhomes/team.do?participationRef=2366.0.35345736  and click on “Sponsor Our Team” to make a donation.
