Over the years, many of our donors have purchased life insurance policies for their family's protection, to guarantee resources for their children's education, or to safeguard their business.
But, as time progresses their business becomes more prosperous or their estate grows from wisely made investments, or their children graduate from college. As a result, they no longer need the financial protection of existing life insurance policies.
Should you find yourself in a similar situation, you may want to consider using a life insurance policy to assure that your values and goals are achieved in perpetuity through the SIOP Foundation.
There are two ways of using your life insurance policy to achieve your charitable goals. You may donate your policy outright to the Toledo Community Foundation/SIOP Fund. The gift of a life insurance policy is tax deductible.
Alternatively, you may decide to retain ownership of the policy and name the Toledo Community Foundation/SIOP Fund as beneficiary, which will result in an estate tax reduction but no deduction for income tax purposes.
Regardless of the option you choose, life insurance is an easy and cost-effective means of ensuring that your charitable interests will be supported long after you're gone.
