About the Job

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a senior level executive to lead our Research, Innovation & Product Development (RIPD) group at our headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Reporting to CCL’s President and CEO, the Vice President, RIPD directs our global Research, Innovation and Product Development functions.  This role is responsible for the development and execution of CCL’s learning, product development, innovation and knowledge dissemination agendas.  Working closely with CCL’s three Regional Vice Presidents (Americas, APAC, and EMEA) and Marketing as well as others on the 10- person Executive Team, this person is responsible for the discovery, design, development and commercial launch of program, product, and services from CCL’s dynamic new product development pipeline.  This individual will be responsible for the design and development of new educational programs, products, and services (PPS’s), as well as major revisions to existing PPS’s, providing management and leadership to the process of converting CCL’s research into useable content, from publications to assessments to program modules and tools, from conception to completion.  This individual oversees an extensive evaluation function.  The Vice President – Research, Innovation, and Product Development also manages a global innovation group.  This group serves as an “incubator” to support the “fuzzy front end” of the product development process, partnering extensively with other organizations. 

 

This executive supports growth of the Leadership Beyond Boundaries work that is focused on scaling leadership development to underserved populations around the world. 

 

The Vice President, RIPD manages a geographically dispersed staff of senior level research and product development professionals (managers, full-time R&D faculty, designers, information scientists,  project managers, evaluation professionals, Publications staff and other staff assigned to RIPD projects), establishing and maintaining superior work environment conducive for extraordinary levels of innovation while delivering impactful quality research and product development outcomes. 

 

 

The Vice President, RIPD serves as “principal investigator” for CCL’s leadership research agenda in service of CCL’s global, regional, and industry vertical work with leaders in a wide variety of organizational cultures and geographic settings.   This role actively engages with Advancement in the acquisition, execution, and administration of third-party funding to underwrite research and innovation efforts.  This individual plays an active role in developing relationships at senior levels within a variety of INGOs.  The successful candidate will develop partnerships with other institutions in support of CCL’s learning agenda.  This successful candidate will represent CCL’s leadership learning agenda to external audiences and lead the efforts to seek external support, including funding. 

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

1.     Proven track record of accomplishment in behavioral and social sciences, including publications and thought leadership.

2.     In-depth knowledge of research and teaching in the field of leadership and leadership development. 

3.     Ph.D. in behavioral sciences or related field highly desirable.

4.     Experience in successfully managing research, product development and innovation staff and R&D projects within a complex organization.  Includes responsibility for budgets, human resources, project management, and measurement systems.

5.     Successful leadership experience bringing new products and services to market. 

6.     Ability to operate successfully in a networked global environment that depends critically on a high degree of collaboration and sharing of resources, including faculty, and content knowledge.

7.     Excellent communication skills, including writing of reports and articles.  Experience in presenting to global audiences of professionals, academics, and senior executives.

8.     Experience working with senior executives doing CRM.

9.     Experience in securing funding for research projects through third-party funding, donations, and in-kind support.

10.  Strong commitment, in word and deed, to CCL’s mission and values.

11.  10-plus years of Executive level experience at Director level or above. 

12.  Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction for research/product development and ensure successful execution of the strategy.

13.  At a minimum, 5 years of experience working on a global team to deliver results. 

14.  Experience working on an executive team to set organizational strategy and deliver results.
