Job Summary and Mission

This position contributes to Starbucks success by designing and implementing global survey programs to gather partner feedback and provide insights to continuously improve the partner experience and achieve business objectives. Designs and implements more complex research projects throughout the organization, including surveys and advanced statistical analyses. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
 
About Global Partner (Employee) Insights

The Global Partner Insights department falls under the umbrella of a newly formed Global Consumer and Partner Insights organization within Global Strategy. Global Partner Insights is responsible for delivering consulting services and tools across the company in two main areas:

  1. “Partner Experience” (Engagement) Surveys/Focus Groups and Custom Research and
  2. Scorecards and Advanced Analytics (e.g., linkage research, predictive business analytics and metrics). 

The Partner Insights function was pulled out of HR and merged with Consumer Insights to provide a unified partner-consumer approach and deliver insights to inform strategic decisions for the entire company. Global Strategy also includes Store Development and Market Testing Analytics, Loyalty Programs, and Forecasting. As such, candidates for this role will have a unique opportunity to sit with and influence the business. With the evolution of the Global Consumer and Partner Insights organization, there will be increasing opportunities for the Senior Researcher/Consultant to develop and deliver research in the consumer space as well as partner space.
 
The Senior Researcher/Consultant will report to the Research Manager and partner with fellow researchers and database managers on the Insights team, as well as HR and business leaders across the enterprise. This position will be part of a group of Industrial/Organizational Psychologists and market researchers.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities

  • Supports the research manager in the design and implementation of global partner (employee) engagement survey programs, leading all aspects of research design from survey items to results presentations and action planning. Helps develop enterprise survey strategy and provides thought leadership to create cutting edge survey initiatives.
  • Leads strategic partner (employee) research projects (and potentially consumer-related projects), running advanced (e.g., modeling, multivariate) analytics and providing predictive decision metrics to business leaders. Partners with leaders to identify research questions/hypotheses, determine key metrics, and interpret results. Runs analyses or oversees researchers in running analyses, and develops and presents findings in a way that informs business decision-making.
  • Leads custom quantitative and qualitative research projects with various business units, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and statistical analyses. Helps internal clients determine business unit strengths and opportunities.
  • Manages all phases of projects, including contracting and consulting with clients, developing research/project plans, providing insights and recommendations to facilitate decision-making, and developing and presenting results summaries.
  • Supports the design of workforce segmentation and planning, performance management, talent assessment, and analytics programs. Serves as subject matter expert to other areas such as Staffing and Organizational Development.
  • Collaborates with qualified external consultants as needed, monitoring their work.

Job Requirements

Summary of Experience

  • 5 years of I/O-related work experience, most of which is in a consulting or corporate environment.
  • 5 years of experience in the design, development, and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and tools, including data analysis and interpretation.
  • 5 years of combined project experience in survey research and one or more of the following areas: 360 feedback, assessment tools (for selection, development, placement), advanced analytics (e.g., linkage research, key driver analysis, predictive modeling), program evaluation, or performance management.
  • Experience on a large-scale, multilingual survey project a strong plus.
  • Experience running ROI analyses using financial metrics (e.g., sales, profit growth, revenue, and EPS) a plus.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • M.A. or Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related field required.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis and research design methodology including Regression, ANOVA and factor analysis. SPSS knowledge and experience required. SEM and/or cluster analysis experience a plus. Experience writing SPSS syntax a plus.
  • Ability to function independently in a business environment, partnering with senior leaders and effectively delivering consulting services and presentations.
  • Strong project management, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to independently develop executive summaries and articulate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Solid skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
