About the Job

The Assessment & Performance function within Merck & Co., Inc. is seeking an advanced graduate student in an Industrial/Organizational (I/O Psychology program for a full-time, 12 month internship located at Merck’s World Headquarters in Whitehouse Station, NJ.  The position is part of Merck’s Global Talent Center of Excellence providing consulting services to our research, manufacturing, and commercial businesses worldwide.


Responsibilities for this role include working both independently and with other I/O psychologists and talent management professionals to conduct job analyses, design, develop, and deploy assessments for both selection and development, and generate and maintain relationships with key internal clients.  There are also significant opportunities to gain experience in related areas, such as performance management and employee/career development.


Job Requirements

The ideal candidate for this internship is ABD in an I/O Psychology doctoral program with significant education and interest in the area of assessment & selection.  Candidates who have completed a terminal Master's degree in I/O Psychology will also be considered.  The role requires full-time, on-site availability for about 12 months.


We’re looking for someone who has the following skills & background: 

·        Strong proficiency in research methods and statistical/analytical skills

·         High level of organization & attention to detail

·         Strong oral and written communication skills

·         Background in and knowledge of job analysis, competency model development, test development, validation, and adverse impact analyses

·        Solid understanding of professional, ethical, and legal standards in employment testing, measurement, and selection (SIOP, APA Standards, AERA, Uniform Guidelines, OFCCP, etc.)

·        Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
