What benefits does a SIOP membership provide? Do benefits vary based on membership status?
Please visit http://www.siop.org/benefits/ for complete benefit information.

How do I know if I am eligible for SIOP membership? Should I apply for Member or Associate, etc.?
Please carefully read the membership criteria at http://www.siop.org/joinsiop.aspx to determine which membership status is right for you.

Can you expedite my membership approval so that I can take advantage of an impending membership benefit?

SIOP has enjoyed significant growth in the past few years and in 2012 alone welcomed over 400 new professional and 1,600 student members. With SIOP’s small administrative staff (with a Membership “Department” of one employee) and an all-volunteer Membership Committee, we do our best to welcome new members in a timely fashion while also ensuring applicants are a good fit for SIOP membership and meet all requirements, as guided by the Society’s Bylaws.

We are not able to expedite the processing of your application. However, we do permit those who have filed a new professional or upgrade application to earn some membership benefits immediately while their application is under review, including being able to submit conference proposals and earn the member rate for conference registration. Once notified of approval for professional membership, or as soon as a student application has been filed, the individual must make a dues payment to finalize the membership and continue receiving the associated benefits. Those who are denied membership will have their access to benefits immediately removed.

What is the dues payment schedule? Should I pay now? When will my membership expire?

Professional membership applicants should not submit a dues payment until they have been formally accepted for membership and asked to pay dues. Student Affiliate applicants should submit a dues payment at the time of application. Individuals upgrading their membership will continue to receive benefits while their application is under review, even if the dues deadline for their current membership passes.

Please view the dues payment schedule at http://www.siop.org/Dues/payment.aspx.

To renew an unpaid membership the member should simply visit www.siop.org/dues to make a payment, not submit a new membership application.

What are the steps in the SIOP membership process?
  • Review the required membership criteria
  • Decide which membership status (Member, Associate, International Affiliate, or Student Affiliate) is appropriate.
  • Select an option on the Membership Online home page and follow the instructions.

Apply for a New Student Affiliate Membership
  1. Complete each screen of the application all the way through to submission(you will receive email confirmation of a successful submission).
  2. Make an online dues payment upon completion of your application.
  3. If you prefer to pay by check, mail in your payment at your earliest convenience.
  4. Your Student Affiliate membership benefits will be activated upon receipt of the dues.

Apply for a New Professional(Member, Associate or International Affiliate) Membership
  1. Complete each screen of the application all the way through to submission(you will receive email confirmation of a successful submission).
  2. Your application will be evaluated by the SIOP Membership Committee, which may take up to 8 weeks to make a decision on your approval for membership.
  3. For Member or Associate applicants, your outside organizational membership(APA, APS,CPA, EAWOP) will be verified during this time period. Member or Associate status cannot be granted until you are verifiably a professional member in one of the four outside organizations.
  4. Keep an eye on your inbox for a membership decision to be emailed when available.
  5. If approved, follow the instructions in your approval email to make a professional dues payment to finalize membership.
  6. If denied, view the reason(s) provided and follow the instructions on how to resubmit an application, if applicable.

Upgrade a Current or Lapsed membership
  1. Recall your membership username and password (there is a reminder feature if needed) so that the program recognizes you as a current or former SIOP member.
  2. Log in and review the information in your membership record, updating any outdated information and adding new information where necessary.
  3. Follow the steps 1-6 under "New Professional Membership" above.

Resume a Saved Membership Application
  1. Recall your membership username and password(there is a reminder feature if needed) so that the program recognizes you as having an in-progress application.
  2. Log in and continue completing your application, following the steps above for a "New Professional Membership".

Check the Status of a Submitted Application
  1. Recall your membership username and password (there is a reminder feature if needed) so that the program can locate your submitted application.
  2. Log in and view the status of your under-review application.
  3. If you applied for Member or Associate and there is a notice concerning a failed APA, APS, CPA, and/or EAWOP membership verification, take the appropriate action to ensure you are a current professional member of one of those organizations and notify siop@siop.org when that has been completed.
  4. If it has been 8 weeks or more since the date of your application was received and the committee has yet to return a decision, contact the Membership Services Manager at siop@siop.org for assistance.
  5. If your application has been approved but you have not yet made a dues payment, proceed to http://www.siop.org/dues to finalize your membership.
  6. If your application has been denied, contact the Membership Services Manager at siop@siop.org for assistance in submitting an application for re-review.
