Save the Date for Upcoming SIOP Events!

The 2012 Leading Edge Consortium (LEC), “Environmental Sustainability at Work: Advancing Research, Enhancing Practice,” brought out some of the best and brightest in the field of environmental sustainability October 19 and 20 at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, Louisiana. You can read a full story about this year's LEC here as well as a follow-up article in the January 2013 issue of TIP.

The SIOP 2013 Leading Edge Consortium will be held October 18-19 at the Richmond Omni in Richmond, Virginia. The theme of that event will be talent management.

We hope to see you next year in Richmond!

And be sure to mark your calendars: Early registration for the 2013 SIOP Annual Conference will open soon, and you won't want to miss out! The 28th Annual Conference will be held April 11-13, 2013 at the Hilton Americas in Houston. Preconference Workshops will take place April 10. You can view more information about SIOP's upcoming conference on the SIOP Annual Conference page. Check the SIOP website in the coming months for more information!

Also, as winter approaches, take time to think about sunnier days in a tropical climate—like the 2014 SIOP Annual Conference, to be held in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii! The 2014 conference will take place at the Hilton Hawaiian Villages resort, 22 acres of oceanfront paradise that includes 5 pools (including Waikiki's largest Super Pool), diverse dining options (with 20 restaurants and lounges), and beautiful views.

Save the date and make plans for an extended stay!

My.SIOP is Your New SIOP Dashboard

My.SIOP is Your New SIOP Dashboard

Big changes have come to the SIOP website recently. We’re making it even easier to access all of your account features and information via the my.SIOP platform. My.SIOP will now serve as the home for all member-related content and activity—locating all of your favorite member benefits and resources in one easy-to-use dashboard!

After months of development, the Electronic Communications Committee proudly presented SIOP’s member-only online community in April. We are now implementing the second phase of the my.SIOP project by moving all member account functions to the my.SIOP community. Members used to login to SIOP.org and gain access to member-only content dispersed throughout the site. Now, after logging into SIOP.org, all of that member-only content—along with all of your account information, dues payments, the directory and other programs—is located on your my.SIOP dashboard.

Some Changes You Will Notice:

  • When you login to SIOP.org from the main page, you will automatically be directed to your dashboard on my.SIOP.
  • When you login to SIOP.org from any page other than the homepage, you will see a new menu appear on the left-hand side with links to your my.SIOP account.
  • The “Members” menu will no longer appear on the grey menu bar after logging in.
  • All your member links are now on the dashboard so the former member home page has been phased out.

These are your colleagues. This is your profession. My.SIOP is your new way to interact with them all. With my.SIOP you can communicate, keep up with news, share information, access your account information, use SIOP resources, and collaborate all in one place. Continue reading here for a tour of the changes you will see when you visit SIOP!

Announcing Practitioner Group Mentoring

The SIOP Professional Practice Committee is excited to announce the introduction of the third component to the SIOP Practitioner Mentoring Program: Group Mentoring. Group Mentoring involves seasoned “mentors” meeting with “protégés” for a series of regular, on-going meetings that can be conducted virtually (e.g., phone, video conference, etc.) to discuss practitioner-related topics and issues of interest. This is a terrific opportunity for protégés to seek practitioner-oriented guidance and instruction from mentors who have “been there and done that,” as well as for mentors to pass on the wisdom and knowledge they have gained throughout their careers. Group Mentoring will kick-off in late January/early February, 2013 and run through September, 2013.

Group Mentoring is part of the broader SIOP Practitioner Mentoring Program, which was borne out of the call to provide more opportunities for practitioner based- career development and learning. This opportunity is available to SIOP Members as a part of the SIOP Professional Practice suite of resources for practitioners and academics. As part of this program, Speed Mentoring sessions have been implemented with great success in the last three Annual conferences, and technology-based Virtual Mentoring programs have been piloted recently at the LEC and Annual Conferences.

In coming weeks the Practice Committee will be recruiting SIOP Members who are interested in serving as either mentors or protégés in the Group Mentoring project.  Stay tuned to the SIOP website and emails for instructions on how and when to sign up to participate. If you would like more information about the Group Mentoring project or to express your interest in participating, please contact Maya Yankelevich at maya.yankelevich@gmail.com or Samantha Ritchie at Samantha.Ritchie@verizon.net.
