Call for Nominations
FABBS Foundation Early Career Investigator Award
SIOP’s new External Awards Sucommittee, under the Awards Committee, is currently seeking nominations for the 2013 FABBS Foundation Early Career Investigator Award. The Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences (FABBS), of which SIOP is a member society, is a coalition of scientific societies that share an interest in advancing the sciences of mind, brain, and behavior. The Early Career Investigator Award is presented by the FABBS Foundation to early career scientists of FABBS member societies during the first 10 years post-PhD and recognizes scientists who have made major contributions to our sciences.
Deadline for submissions is October 12, 2012. All submissions must be provided
via e-mail to the External Awards committee at ExternalAwards@siop.org.
The goal of the award is to enhance public visibility of mind, brain, and behavior sciences and of the particular research of award recipients. Nominations are encouraged for individuals who have made outstanding research contributions, and especially – but not exclusively – for those who have also increased awareness of science through outreach activities to the public (e.g., community talks, high school demos) or communication with the media (e.g., interviews, blogs).
1. The award honors early career scientists for contributions during the first 10 years post-PhD.
2. The recipient of an award representing SIOP must be a member in good standing of SIOP.
To submit a nomination or self-nomination, please provide the following via e-mail to the External Awards committee at ExternalAwards@siop.org:
1. The name and contact information for the nominee (and nominator if applicable)
2. An electronic copy of the nominee’s CV in PDF format
3. A statement highlighting the major research contributions of the nominee (in 400 or fewer words)
4. If applicable, another statement describing activities of the nominee that have raised awareness of the science to the public (in 200 or fewer words).
Deadline for submissions is October 12, 2012. All submissions must be provided via e-mail to the External Awards committee at ExternalAwards@siop.org.
The External Awards committee will review the nominations (including self-nominations), provide recommendations to SIOP’s Executive Board and forward the information regarding the top candidate to the FABBS Foundation in mid-November.
The award recipient will be presented a plaque that recognizes their achievement at SIOP’s 2013 conference. The FABBS science writer will work with SIOP and award recipients to disseminate the research to public audiences.
For additional information about this call for nominations, please contact the External Awards committee at ExternalAwards@siop.org or SIOP’s representatives to FABBS Council, Michele Gelfand (email@example.com) or Seth Kaplan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The FABBS Foundation encourages donors to contribute to the FABBS Foundation in recognition of the Early Career Investigator Award.
