International Forum: In Search of a Few Good Ideas
Dirk D. Steiner

As our president Nancy Tippins noted in
her October 2000 TIP column, international activities and participation
in SIOP are alive and well and have experienced a great growth spurt over the
past 5 years. A large number of non-American colleagues attend and present their
work at our annual conference, and our Society and its members have established
a number of collaborative links with I-O related organizations around the world.
Despite this high level of international participation, it appears that SIOP
members are still hungry for more.
To help our Society develop its international activities, I have been charged
with soliciting your ideas and summarizing them in a future article. The
question is simply, what kind of international involvement do SIOP members and
foreign affiliates want? One idea that has been proposed by Dimitri
Liakhovitski is an international social at the Annual Conference. Please
react to this idea, and make other suggestions. Of course, let me know if you
are interested in working on the development of some aspect of international
involvement for SIOP. My e-mail address appears at the end of this article. I am
eager to read your comments. Merci in advance!
In my next column, I plan to conclude this series that has appeared in TIP
for the past 4 years with a summary and index of the different countries that
have been represented in these pages. I will also provide an update of the
situation of I-O psychology in France, a situation that has evolved since I
first discussed it in my initial column.
Until then, I await your comments and suggestions. Send them to: Dirk
