SIOP Members in the News
Clif Boutelle
SIOP Media Consultant
News writers and reporters are discovering
that the expertise of SIOP members can, and does, add credibility to their
stories. And why not? SIOP members possess a broad range of specialized
knowledge that can enlighten media reports on workplace issues.
For example, the Gannett News Service in July called upon Bob and Joyce
Hogan, of Hogan Assessment Systems in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to comment on a story
about online personality tests that appeared in newspapers across the country.
A research study about the personalities of U.S. presidents coauthored by Deniz
Ones of the University of Minnesota psychology department, was quoted in Time
Magazine in August 2000.
David Peterson of Personnel Decisions International in Minneapolis,
Minnesota was quoted extensively in a June Fortune Magazine column about
how managers can best motivate employees.
A study co-conducted by Old Dominion University psychology professor Debra
Major shows how a good relationship with a boss can sometimes result in
longer work hours and tougher assignments which, in turn, can take its toll on
family life. Those findings were reported in the May issue of Working Mother
and also picked up by the Associated Press.
There are other examples and the TIP staff would like to know about
them so they can be part of a new editorial departmentSIOP Members in the
News.
