Port of Houston Boat Tour (deadline to register is April 1)
Experience an unforgettable waterborne voyage through one of the busiest ports in the world! Join us for a leisurely 90-minute tour of the Port of Houston (POH). We’ll traverse the Houston Ship Channel through a 25-mile-long complex of diverse public and private facilities and enjoy passing views of international cargo vessels and port operations.
One of the world’s busiest ports, POH is a vibrant component of the regional economy that has been instrumental in Houston's development as a center of international trade. As the nation’s leading break-bulk post, the POH handles 65% of all major U.S. project cargo and is home to a $15 billion petrochemical complex, the second largest in the world.
The port has an impressive record of accomplishments and has been recognized for its business management, security management, and communication methods. In addition, it the first U.S. port to attain the world standard for environmental excellence (i.e., ISO 14001) and was named "Port Authority of the Year" at the 2011 Containerisation International Awards.
The POH tour will take place on Wednesday, April 10, departing at 1:30 p.m. and returning to the hotel by 5 p.m. The $30 cost includes ground transportation and an air-conditioned ride on the M/V Sam Houston. Passengers 18 and older MUST present a valid government-issued photo identification before boarding the boat. Acceptable forms of identification include driver's license, state-issued identification card, and passport. Backpacks, oversized purses and other large bags are prohibited aboard the vessel. Passengers' personal belongings may be subject to searches in accordance with federal regulations.
A beverage is served midway on the tour and water and light snacks will be available on the bus. There is a 20 person minimum for this tour. Saint Arnold Brewery Tour
Saint Arnold Brewing Company is Texas' oldest craft brewery. Their goal is to brew world-class beers and deliver them to customers as fresh as possible, making them the best beers in Texas. Customers are beer lovers, people that appreciate great, full-flavored beers. The small crew does everything at the brewery: brew, filter, keg, bottle, sell, and drink the beer. For employees, this is a passion, not a job. Their passion comes through in the beers they make.
Saint Arnold brews 14 different beers: 7 are made year round and 7 are seasonal. Tour participants will have the opportunity to taste up to four beers/root beer before and after the tour. A souvenir Saint Arnold glass is included in the admission. Larger glasses with your favorite beer logos are available for purchase at the gift shop.
Join fellow SIOP beer lovers for a festive afternoon savoring the various beers, comparing notes and taking an entertaining tour of the brewery. For your safety, closed toe shoes are required for those who want to tour the tank farm while they are in production.
