2013 HRM Impact Award Winners Recognized at SIOP Leading Edge Consortium
The winners of the inaugural HRM Impact Awards were honored October 18 at SIOP’s 9th Annual Leading Edge Consortium in Richmond, VA.
The HRM Impact Award—sponsored jointly by SIOP, the Society for Human Resource Management, the SIOP Foundation, and the SHRM Foundation—honors and highlights the best evidence-based HR management practices that have been measured and determined successful through data-driven analyses.
The four co-sponsoring organizations announced two private and two public sector winners of the 2013 HRM Impact Awards at the SHRM Strategy Conference in San Diego October 1: PepsiCo | Frito-Lay, Procter & Gamble, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and North Shore Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System (read more about the winners and their exemplary initiatives here).
Representatives from three of the winning organizations were present in Richmond to accept their recognition plaques. SIOP Foundation President Milt Hakel presented plaques to Benjamin Nemo, Compensation Manager at PepsiCo | Frito-Lay; Robin McBeth, Chief of the Executive/Supervisory Staffing Center (HR) at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Catherine Galla, Assistant Vice President of Nursing Initiatives at North Shore Health LIJ System, and Myrta Rabinowitz, Manager of Nursing Initiatives, also at North Shore.
SIOP President Tammy Allen, Jeff Pon of SHRM, and Rich Klimoski, representing the SHRM Foundation, welcomed each winner up to the stage. The winners were also invited to stay at the LEC for lunch, receptions and other festivities.
Brian Welle and Michelle Donovan were also acknowledged as representatives of Google, which was designated with an honorable mention for their project, "Healthy choices: Shaping employees' decision environments."
“I was very honored to receive this award on behalf of my organization,” said Robin McBeth of ATF, which won for their Electronic Promotion Assessment System (EPAS). “Not only was it exciting to be among the inaugural award winners, but also to be in the company of such top-notch companies and organizations.”
The other winning initiatives include the Procter & Gamble “Global Adaptive Reasoning Test,” Frito-Lay’s “Performance Pay Program,” and North Shore LIJ’s “Transforming Culture Through Evidence and Innovation.”
Hakel congratulated all of the winning organizations and commented on the robust and impressive group of submissions received for the award’s first year. He also noted that he hopes to continue to see submissions increase as the award gains traction.
