IOP Welcomes New Editor

by SIOP Administrative Office

SIOP Announces John Scott as New Industrial and Organizational Psychology Journal Editor

SIOP Fellow John Scott will serve as incoming editor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice (IOP), SIOP’s premier journal.

“I think the SIOP leadership made a great choice,” said current IOP Editor and SIOP Fellow Kevin Murphy. “The journal is deeply concerned with both the science and the practice of I-O psychology, and as an editor with serious credentials in both domains, I think John is a great choice for this journal.”

Scott will officially take over as editor on September 1, 2015 with volume 9 of the journal, but he is already handling submissions of potential focal articles. The position is a 3-year term.

“It is certainly an honor to have been selected to this post,” Scott said. “The IOP journal has evolved since its inception to be a critical resource for practitioners, researchers, and academicians. This is due to its outstanding editors and thought leaders who have contributed from across a broad spectrum of SIOP.  I will do my best to continue the journal’s success in presenting new ideas and stimulating debate.”

An open call for editor nominations was made to SIOP last fall and additional names were solicited from the Executive Board over the winter. A selection sub-committee reviewed nominations this spring and selected the editor prior to the SIOP conference.  SIOP Publications Officer and Fellow Allan Church led the solicitation and review process.

Scott said that his plans for his term include working to elicit critical, cross-disciplinary thinking on topics that have broad appeal to the full SIOP membership.

“In particular, I will be looking for constructive yet lively exchanges between academics and practitioners – which will require that more practitioners contribute to the journal,” he explained. “Don’t worry, I know where you are!”
