Career Accomplishments Earn Major Honor for Rob Silzer

Rob Silzer was presented the Society of Consulting Psychology’s top honor—the 2016 International Award of Excellence in Consultation—at its Midwinter Conference in Orlando earlier in February. SCP is Division 13 of the American Psychological Association.

Given annually to an individual with a distinguished career in the practice of consulting psychology, Silzer was recognized for his leadership of consulting organizations, his voluminous practice serving clients around the world, and his contributions as a thought leader in the field of consulting psychology. 

Rob is Managing Director of HR Assessments and Development Inc. and is on the doctoral faculty of Baruch College Graduate Center of City University of New York (CUNY).

The SCP Awards Committee cited the sheer quantity of his work, noting his prolific accomplishments in scholarship and his efforts to contribute to the training of other consultants. 

“He has continuously advanced the field through questioning long-held tenets of our discipline and challenging standard approaches to our work. Professional members have benefited, too, from the academic rigor and incisive analyses that have characterized his contributions in our intellectual exchanges over the years. We increasingly have come to value the critical, yet always constructive, approaches he has taken to improve the work to which we all are so strongly committed,” the committee wrote in describing Silzer’s accomplishments.

A well-respected consultant, his peers lauded his dedication to clients and his “powerful contributions to the effectiveness of individuals, teams and systems.” His work has involved nearly 100 corporate projects around the world and has involved a full range of consulting services, with special emphasis on executive assessment and coaching.

Active in professional service and the development of other consulting psychologists, he is frequently described as someone who is “willing to query and challenge, rather than applying standard or typical solutions…the hallmark of a true consultant.” 

A longtime member of SIOP, his work as an I-O professional and practitioner has been recognized with the SIOP 2015 Distinguished Professional Contributions Award. He has had a profound influence on the field of I-O psychology through his writing, workshops, presentations and teaching. He has been in the forefront of developing and sharing best practices in I-O assessment and development, especially in the important fields of talent management and high potential talent.

Silzer has been editor or co-editor of three volumes in the SIOP Professional Series on topics of individual psychological assessment, executive leadership and talent management. Over the years he has conducted 10 professional workshops held prior to SIOP’s annual conferences and he was the practice chair of SIOP’s first Leading Edge Consortium. He is the incoming SIOP Professional Practice Officer and will serve on the Executive Board beginning in April.

He is a Fellow in SIOP, APA, APS and SCP.
