Development Opportunities Outside the Conference Room

The 32nd Annual SIOP Conference offers presentations on the full range of I-O topics. #SIOP17 also offers a host of professional development options outside the conference rooms, including numerous receptions, exhibit hall, committee zone, and placement center.

Much of the world’s business is accomplished at social gatherings, and the SIOP conference includes many opportunities to mingle and network. Projects and business ventures might be hatched at the continental breakfasts, during the coffee breaks, or over lunch. Receptions provide opportunities to reconnect with colleagues, make new connections, and discuss the day’s presentations.

Receptions

There are nine separate receptions scheduled throughout this year’s conference. Some, including the Welcome Reception and theNetworking Reception & Top Poster Display are of interest to all. Others, like the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs Social Hour, the SIOP Practitioner Network Reception, and the LGBT & Allies Social Hour, offer networking opportunities for those with specific interests. The Newcomer Reception is a good chance for first-time attendees to polish their networking skills and acclimate to the conference. SIOP also offers several other resources to help students and newcomers get up to speed.

Exhibit Hall

All conference attendees will want to schedule time to visit the exhibit hall and the newly created committee zone.

The exhibit hall features 70 booths representing the gamut of organizations working in I-O: professional services and associations, educational institutions, technology vendors and publishers are all included. Visit the exhibitor booth listing to pinpoint the stops you’ll want to make. You can also access the list of exhibitors in the official conference app, powered by Whova.

The exhibit hall is located in Atlantic B & C at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, which is also where the poster sessions, coffee breaks, and concession lunches will be held. The hall is open Thursday from 10 am to 5:30 pm and Friday from 8:30 to 5:30. There are no exhibit hall hours on Saturday.

Committee Zone

The first-ever Committee Zone offers a convenient, centralized location to find out about SIOP’s many committees and their goals for the upcoming year. Located in Atlantic B, the Committee Zone will operate Thursday through Saturday. See the Committee Zone schedule here.

Placement Center

SIOP’s Placement Center, a main fixture of the SIOP Annual Conference since 1993, is a virtual job board where job seekers can enter their resumé, organizations can post jobs, and both groups can search the database for individuals/organizations that match their desired search criteria. At the conference, it is a physical area to connect job seekers to employers.

The Education and Training Subcommittee of the Visibility Committee is hosting a live webinar, Making the Most of SIOP as a Student, on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 3-4 EST. SIOP 2017 Conference Chair Daisy Chang and Membership Services Specialist Jayne Tegge will share tips and insights. Follow this link to watch or participate in the webinar.
