SIOP Welcomes New Officers!

The results of the recent election are in, and SIOP’s newest Executive Board officers are:

    Eden B. King - President-Elect
    Evan Sinar- Financial Officer/Secretary
    Allan Church​- Membership Services Officer
    Mo Wang - Publications Officer
    Alexis Fink - Conference and Programs Officer*

Congratulations to all this year’s winners! The new officers will take their positions after SIOP’s 33rd Annual Conference, which will take place April 19-21, 2018 in Chicago. *At that time, the Conference and Programs Portfolio Officer role will become vacant. Per SIOP bylaws, the person with the second most votes in the election for that role (the November 2016 election cycle) assumes those duties. Alexis Fink will become the Conference and Programs Portfolio Officer and serve out the remaining two years of that term.

Meet the Officers

Eden B. King

Dr. King is an Associate Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Rice University. In collaboration with graduate and undergraduate students, she is pursuing a program of scholarship that seeks to help individuals and organizations overcome barriers to equality. Her research, which has yielded approximately 100 scholarly publications and has appeared in popular media outlets such as Good Morning America and the New York Times, builds understanding of the experiences of stigmatized individuals in the workplace and the strategies that can be used to improve these experiences. Dr. King is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Management and the Journal of Business and Psychology, and she is on the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Psychology. In addition to her scholarship, she has consulted with organizations on projects related to gender climate initiatives and diversity training programs, and she has worked as an employment discrimination consultant.

Dr. King has served SIOP in many roles. Most recently, she has served on the Executive Board as the elected officer for the Conferences and Programs Portfolio. But her engagement with SIOP has been far more extensive and has included membership on the Education and Training, External Relations, Scientific Affairs, and Membership committees, and service as a co-Chair of the SIOP committee on LGBT Issues. Perhaps her deepest service has been to the conference; she served as 2013 Program Chair and 2014-15 Conference Chair.

Evan Sinar

At Development Dimensions International (DDI), Dr. Sinar serves as Chief Scientist and Vice President in the Leadership Reach Center. In this position, he has three sets of responsibilities: first, to work with his DDI colleagues – often financial analysts – to diagnose and make decisions about new market opportunities toward the goal of continued profitable, sustained revenue growth. Second, to plan and execute analytics initiatives linking clients’ leadership programs to business objectives. And third, to produce – often using data visualization techniques to detect patterns and convey complex concepts - contemporary, prescriptive thought leadership about emerging talent trends and research-grounded people practices.

Within SIOP, he has served in a series of roles including Program Chair (2014) and on the Executive Board as Conferences and Programs Officer from 2014 to 2017. Through his time on the Executive Board, he has gained deep experience partnering with other SIOP officers to understand and advance the “business of SIOP.” He was also recognized as a SIOP Fellow in 2017 for his contributions to the field.

Allan Church

Allan H. Church is the Senior Vice President of Global Talent Assessment and Development at PepsiCo. He is responsible for setting the enterprise talent strategy for high-potential identification and development, and strengthening the leadership pipeline via the talent review process. Previously he held a number of positions in the talent management and OD areas at PepsiCo during his 17 years with the company. Prior to PepsiCo he spent nine years as an external OD consultant working for W. Warner Burke Associates and several years at IBM. On the side, he has served in various external professional leadership roles including Chair of the Mayflower Group, SIOP Publications Officer, TIP Editor, and SIOP Professional Practice Book Series Co-Editor. Currently he is on the Executive Committee of the Conference Board’s Council of Talent Management and on the Board of Directors for HRPS the Executive Network of SHRM. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, and sits on the editorial boards of several academic and practitioner publications including Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Consulting Psychology Journal, Journal of Social Psychology, the Journal of Business and Psychology, and the OD Practitioner. He has authored several books, over 35 book chapters, and over 150 practitioner and scholarly articles. Dr. Church received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and is a SIOP, APA and APS Fellow.

Mo Wang

Dr. Mo Wang (PhD, Bowling Green State University) is Professor and Lanzilotti-McKethan Eminent Scholar Chair at the Warrington College of Business at University of Florida. He started his work on SIOP committees in 2008, serving as SIOP Membership Service Portfolio Officer (2015-present) and member of the SIOP Organizational Frontiers Series editorial board (2013-present). He also served as SIOP Membership Committee Chair (2012-2013). Dr. Wang is familiar with journal operations, currently serving as Editor-in-Chief for Work, Aging and Retirement and an Associate Editor for Journal of Applied Psychology. He has also accumulated considerable experience working and negotiating with publishers in founding two journals, Work, Aging and Retirement (Oxford University Press) and Occupational Health Science (Springer), and in publishing several books (e.g., Routledge/Psychology Press and Oxford University Press).

To date, Dr. Wang has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than two dozen book chapters. He has received numerous awards for his papers, such as Academy of Management’s HR Division Scholarly Achievement Award (2008), Careers Division Best Paper Award (2009), Emerald Group’s Outstanding Author Contribution Awards (2013 and 2014), and SIOP’s William A. Owens Scholarly Achievement Award (2016). He also received the Cummings Mid-Career Achievement Award from the Academy of Management’s OB Division (2017) and six Early Career Contribution/Achievement Awards from the American Psychological Association (2013); the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences (2013); SIOP (2012); the Academy of Management’s HR Division (2011) and Research Methods Division (2011); and the Society for Occupational Health Psychology (2009).

Alexis Fink

Over the last decade, Dr. Fink has directed talent analytics functions at Intel and Microsoft, which have included initiatives in employee engagement, leadership, management, diversity, and selection. Across the spectrum of research areas, Dr. Fink has worked to keep her teams at the leading edge of science and practice by staying close to the literature and active engagement in practitioner groups. She has prioritized service to SIOP and the broader field of I-O psychology through leadership of two Leading Edge Consortiums (first on the committee and then as chair), as well as chairing the Visibility Committee and, most recently, the SIOP Futures Task Force. Additionally, she has delivered five SIOP pre-conference workshops across several topics. Outside of SIOP, she has supported scientific practices applied to work through service as vice chair and then chair of a science-practice She is currently editing a volume on employee sensing in the SIOP Professional Practice series. Throughout her career, Dr. Fink has held leadership roles stewarding organizations through periods of transition and growth. She has been able to effectively partner with colleagues to identify strategic opportunities and get things done.

About the Voting Process

Votes for SIOP president‐elect and officer positions are recorded using the Ware single transferable vote method (voting is done by ranking candidates and an automatic runoff is calculated, per the procedures used for APA’s presidential election). Candidates are placed in rank order by voters and each person elected must receive a majority of the votes cast. Ranking of all candidates is encouraged but not required.

After each voting round, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated. If the voter's first choice receives the lowest number of votes, the vote is transferred to their second choice for the second round and so on until one candidate reaches the required quota. This system is also known as a “single transferable vote” or instant runoff method.

On the tally sheet, the transferred votes referred to above are shown in the gray boxes. In Round 2 and beyond, ballots that include only candidates that have been eliminated are considered "exhausted." The number of these ballots for each round is indicated on the tally sheet.
