About the Job

The Department of Psychology at the University of Georgia is seeking to fill a Director position for our new professional I-O master’s degree program (IOMP) beginning January 2014. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology or related discipline. Desired qualifications include two years’ teaching experience and two years’ professional experience in human resource management. This is a non-tenure-track position at the level of Academic Professional. The primary responsibility of the Director is to provide leadership and support to the IOMP based at the UGA-Gwinnett campus. The Director is responsible for managing the degree program, enrollment of students and managing staff and graduate students assigned to the IOMP. The Director is responsible for ensuring that the curriculum and instructors teach to the highest level of pedagogy and recruit the best students in the southeast. The Director will also engage in instruction. The Director reports directly to the Executive Director of the IOMP. Duties will be roughly 40% instruction, 20% recruitment and student services; 20% administrative coordination and logistics; and 20% budget management and reporting. This is a 12-month position with an annual salary of $90,000.

Administrative Management

The Director, under the supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for the week-to-week and semester management and operation of the IOMP. This includes the selection, training and supervision of all full time, part time, and temporary staff and instructors. The Director is responsible for selecting graduate students to help in administering the program and managing their performance. The Director must establish policies for accurately tracking and documenting student progress in the IOMP. The Director is also responsible for advertising and promoting the IOMP. The Director assigns the duties and manages the development of staff and graduate students.

Financial Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for assisting the finance team with the creation of the program’s annual budget. The Director assists the Department Head and Executive Director in assessing the needs and requirements of the program. These needs and requirements are then written into the budget. The Director must implement controls over spending and procurement, and ensure compliance with financial policies. The Director must review the budget often and complete reports for any unusual or unexpected expenses. He or she must report all spending to accounting and assist in the creation of financial reports on expenditures.

Instructional Management

The Director will oversee the delivery and effectiveness of instructor content. The Executive Director is responsible for the academic quality of the primary and secondary academic material. The Director works with the Executive Director in selecting the instructors and guest speakers for the IOMP. The Director assists the faculty in choosing the text and materials that will used for each class. The Director must ensure that the academic materials meet the standards and requirements of SIOP’s education and training committee.

Instruction

The Director will teach 2 classes per year as primary instructor. These will be core courses in the program focusing on the fundamentals of human resources and talent management.

Student Customer Service

The Director must oversee the administrative staff that handles student inquiries, requests, and concerns. The Director works closely with the graduate school to make sure student applications are complete and students are enrolled properly. There is also the expectation that the Director will be actively involved in the recruitment and selection of students for the IOMP.
