The Paradox of Innovation: Balancing Innovation, Quality and Efficiency

Presenter:  Miriam Erez

Innovation, Quality and Efficiency are necessary for maintaining the competitive advantage of organizations. While Innovation pertains to thinking out of the box, Quality requires working by the rules, and Efficiency is realized by meeting budget and time constraints. In a series of studies we examined the conditions that enable the balance between these three competing factors.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain why innovation is paradoxical

2. Design some techniques to enhance team/unit innovation

3. Assess the organizational values of innovation, attention to detail and outcome orientation for enhancing idea generation and implementation
