Eduardo Salas

Eduardo Salas is University Trustee Chair and Pegasus Professor of Psychology at the University of Central Florida where he also holds an appointment as program director for the Human Systems Integration Research Department at the Institute for Simulation and Training.  Before joining UCF, he was a senior research psychologist and head of the Training Technology Development Branch of NAWC-TSD for 15 years. Dr. Salas has coauthored over 350 journal articles and book chapters and has coedited 20 books.  His expertise includes promoting teamwork, designing team training strategies, determining training effectiveness, optimizing simulation-based training, enhancing decision making under stress, and the development performance measurement tools.  He has worked and consulted to the aviation, healthcare, military, oil, and financial industries.

Dr. Salas is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and the Association for Psychological Science; he is current President of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and a recipient of the Meritorious Civil Service Award from the Department of the Navy.

Evidence-Based Solutions for Team Development: Competencies and Learning Strategies

In the past 25 years, there has been an explosion of team performance and team training research. And much progress has been made. This presentation will highlight of what we know (so far) about the required teamwork competencies, what makes an effective team, and what are the team-based instructional strategies that work for enhancing these competencies.  The presentation will be a unique opportunity for participants to learn about the hallmarks of effective teams and about what works to enhance team effectiveness.

Can Team Training Enhance Teamwork in Organizations? What Works...

The session will discuss how Team Training may be used to accelerate team expertise and will outline principles to optimize TT with the goal of turning teams of experts into expert teams. Methods of developing and maintaining explicit links between training requirements, exercise design, observation and feedback will also be covered.

2. Summarize what works in simulation-based team training.

3. Outline principles that matter in simulation-based team training.
