Michael J. Benson
Mike Benson joined J&J in 2008. In his current role, Mike is the Director, Leadership Development and part of the Global Talent Management group located at J&J World Headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ. The Global Talent Management organization focuses on delivering a robust and diverse leadership pipeline to achieve the strategic business imperatives and provide a catalyst for change/innovation. His current responsibilities focus on emerging leaders across the enterprise with an emphasis on Business Unit Leader and Research & Development critical talent pools. Additionally, he leads the enterprise-wide team responsible for developing/deploying J&J's new leadership model, and all of the supporting tools/resources.
Prior to joining J&J, Mike worked for Personnel Decisions International, a global HR consultancy, and spent 12 years as a military officer in the United States Air Force. His experience focuses on leadership skills/traits, leadership development, integrated talent management, and organizational performance. Mike has delivered leadership training sessions and talent management consulting around the world.
Mike has a Ph.D. in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from the University of Minnesota, an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a BS degree in Management and Behavioral Sciences & Leadership from the US Air Force Academy. He holds memberships in the American Psychological Association, Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the Academy of Management.
Presentation: Learning to Learn the Lessons of Experience: How J&J Uses Design Thinking & Immersive Experience to Drive Leader & Enterprise Growth
Abstract: At Johnson & Johnson, we are focused on ensuring the lessons of experience are actually learned. Our approach merges design thinking and an “Outside Looking In” approach with immersive, in-market experiences to push leaders outside their comfort zone while ensuring they develop individually. The presentation will focus on the key elements of the new approach and lessons learned.
