Preconsortium Workshop 2: Team Coaching: Accelerating & Sustaining Team Learning and Performance

Presented by Krister Lowe, Team Coaching Zone

Workshop Description:
In a recent study of more than 7,000 organizations, Deloitte Consulting found that 92% of companies reported that their organizational design was inadequate for competing in the digital era. Furthermore, only 14% reported knowing how to respond; however, the emerging answer appears to be to structure the company as a "network of small, nimble teams that work in agile and iterative ways." In this dynamic and interactive workshop participants will explore how team coaching can aid companies in making the important shift to this new team-based structure of working that challenges the predominant 100+ year old model of "scaling for efficiency" to an emerging model of "scaling to learn." Some questions covered in this presentation include:

  • What is team coaching?
  • How is it different from/similar to other relevant modalities (group coaching, training, team building, facilitation, etc.)?
  • What is the business case for utilizing team coaching?
  • What are key elements of a typical team coaching engagement?
  • What situations/organizations are particularly suited (and not suited) for team coaching?
  • What does team coaching look like in practice?
  • What do team coaches need to know about the Assessing, Building and Coaching phases of a team coaching engagement?
  • What resources are available to learn more about team coaching?

Intended Audience:

This session is intended for new and experienced team coaches; executive, business, organizational coaches; team consultants and trainers; learning and development and OD professionals. Also, the session will benefit industrial-organizational and consulting psychologists and HR practitioners interested in making the jump from 1-to-1 coaching and training individuals to working at the team level-of-analysis. This session will be instructed at a post-graduate level with no specific knowledge about team coaching required.

Learning Objectives:

This workshop is designed to help participants:

  • Describe and analyze the business case for team coaching
  • List the key components of the 3 phases of a team coaching engagement (assessing, building, and coaching)
  • Compare how team coaching is similar to as well as distinct from training, 1-to-1 coaching, facilitation and consulting
  • Experience and apply a hands-on team coaching session through demonstration and simulation cases
