Membership Committee Goals and Actions

1. Goal: To increase the number of student affiliates who go on to become regular and associate members. This committee goal supports SIOP goal #3 *Organization of choice of I-O professionals*

Actions:

a)    One hundred thirty-eight graduate students who attended the 2011 annual meeting for the first time participated in our conference ambassador program. These “Newcomers” reviewed “profiles” of volunteer “Conference Ambassadors” and selected their own Ambassador from this list. Forty-four of the Ambassadors were graduate students and 84 were professional members of SIOP. Once Newcomers selected their Ambassador from this list, the Ambassador was notified and contacted their Newcomer at least once prior to the conference either by phone or through electronic means. Ambassadors committed to meeting one or more times with their Newcomer at the conference (at a day and time that is convenient for them). We currently have complete pre- and post-conference survey data from 78 student Newcomer-Ambassador dyads and are in the process of analyzing that data.

b)    We are in the process of developing an exit survey to examine the reasons why student affiliates do not go on to become regular or associate members.

2. Goal: To increase the number of practitioners who become members or renew their memberships. This committee goal supports SIOP goal #3 *Organization of choice of I-O professionals*

Action:

a)    Twenty-one professional first-time attendees of the 2011 annual meeting participated in our conference ambassador program. We currently have complete pre- and post-conference survey data from 7 Newcomer-Ambassador dyads involving a professional Newcomer and are in the process of analyzing that data.

b)    We are currently in the process of developing a membership survey that is planned to be administered in the fall.

c)     We are in the process of developing an exit survey.

3. Goal: To increase the number of international members. This committee goal supports SIOP goal #3 *Organization of choice of I-O professionals*

Action:

a)        Twenty-four international Newcomers participated in the conference Ambassador program. We currently have complete pre- and post-conference survey data from 11 Newcomer-Ambassador dyads involving an international participant and are in the process of analyzing that data.
