Committee Ethnic & Minority Affairs

The CEMA committee is focused on three initiatives for the next year.

1.  Increasing the profile of CEMA

2. Nominating more SIOP/CEMA members for Fellow

3. Creating a dialogue between students and faculty on the diversity of SIOP. 

To that effect we have been able to make some progress on our initiatives. 

1.  Increasing the profile of CEMA

            CEMA will attempt to make contact with more I-O programs across the country in order to make them aware of the group and look for activities at the annual conference. I am working on a letter to Program Directors so that our profile can be increased. Also, CEMA will attempt to secure the funding of a “Best Paper” award. We are contacting the Executive Committee to complete the formal steps before launching a giving campaign. Thirdly, I as CEMA Chair will be participating in the University of North Carolina-Charlotte’s Organizational Summer Science Institute in the summer of 2009 as a Guest Speaker. The goals of the institute are to increase the awareness of careers in organizational science and Psychology and I will discuss SIOP and CEMA as a group. 

2. Nominating more SIOP/CEMA members for Fellow

            We are in the process of generating a list of deserving fellow candidates and will aid in nominating at least one candidate this year for SIOP Fellow through the process. 

3. Creating a dialogue between students and faculty on the diversity of SIOP

            We are still brainstorming ideas on how to create more dialogue between students and faculty on the diversity of SIOP. 

I think we have made some good progress and I will be looking to get more of the committee involved in these other areas as we continue to build momentum.
