From the Editor: Notes and New Columns
Debra A. Major
Old Dominion University
Its my pleasure to welcome you to a new issue of TIP. This is 2 of
12 in my tenure as editor. I appreciate the feedback on the first issue.
Since no one demanded my immediate firing, Ill take that as an indication
that Im managing to maintain the high standards set by Alan Church and other
past editors. I was especially delighted to find that, even at 200 pages, TIP
has at least one cover to cover reader. (Stan Gully, I know youre
blushing right now, but in my book, dedicated readers deserve a little
recognition!)
In my first column, I mentioned that, in the spirit of continuous
improvement, you might see changes from issue to issue. In this issue, Id
like to introduce you to two terrific new columns. The first, A Matter of
Difference, is a column devoted to discussions about diversity. In every issue
of TIP, Martin Davidson and Bernardo Ferdman promise to tackle the difficult and
sensitive issues associated with this topic in the workplace and in our
profession. The title of our second new column, Education and Training in I-O
Psychology, sums up the topic concisely. We expect this column to appear twice a
year, at least initially. Laura Koppes and Neil Hauenstein hope to create a
forum for discussions regarding current and future challenges in training I-O
psychologists and teaching excellence. As Laura pointed out to me, over
one-third of the SIOP membership is involved in some type of teachingthis
column is for you! Welcome to all four of our new columnists.
I could devote every column to singing the praises of the great team in the
SIOP Administrative Office, and it still wouldnt be a sufficient expression
of my gratitude for all their help in making TIP happen. Lee Hakel and Gail
Nader should just consider themselves thanked in perpetuity. Id also like to
recognize the efforts of Lori Peake who is taking on more and more
responsibility for the publication of TIP. Im fortunate to have a capable and
enthusiastic graduate assistant, Rebekah Cardenas, who assists me with TIP and
countless other responsibilities. Finally, the production of TIP runs much more
smoothly when Executive Committee Members, TIP Board Members, and other authors
submit their work by the deadline. Nearly everyone managed to do that for this
issue. Thank you! (TIP submission deadlines are published inside the front
cover.)
Something for Everyone
Im trying to live up to my promise of ensuring that TIP includes
something for everyone. Simultaneously, Im attempting to control
article length and the overall length of TIP in order to recruit more members to
Stans cover to cover club. Did you notice that this issue is 40 pages
shorter than the last? I also want to make it easier for you to find the
information you desire. Toward that end, heres a listing of what youll
find in this issue of TIP, organized by content.
