The following list of groups is provided as a service to SIOP members who may
be interested in finding local or interest area I-O groups.1 There is
no direct affiliation between SIOP and any of these groups. I have tried to find
a Web site for each group, but if one is not available then a current contact is
provided. Also, several groups formerly listed in Toms article are defunct
now, so are not listed here. This list is also available on the SIOP Web site: www.siop.org,
with links directly to the groups Web sites. If you have information on any
other groups that you think other SIOP members might be interested in, please

ASAP (Atlanta Society of Applied Psychology). Bimonthly meetings,
periodic workshops, newsletter, and an e-mail listserv. CE credits available.

ASTD (American Society of Training and Development). The major,
national training association. Many local chapters. Info-line. Publishes books,
journal, and software. www.astd.org.
BAAP (Bay Area Applied Psychologists). Founded in 1996, this group
meets on a quarterly basis to discuss a broad range of I-O topics. Meets in the
San Francisco/Bay Area. About 50 members and is considering a newsletter. www.BAAPonline.org.
Brunswik Society. Informal association of researchers who are
interested in understanding and improving human judgment and decision making.
Members of the Society share an appreciation of the work of the psychologist
Egon Brunswik. The Society has no dues. Its primary activities have been an
annual meeting held every year since 1985, a yearly newsletter (since 1986), and
an Internet discussion list (since 1993). www.brunswik.org/.
Central Florida I-O Interest Group. An informal IO interest group
with infrequent dinner meetings rotating between Tampa Bay and Orlando. About 75

CIOP (Chicago I-O Psychologists, formerly GCAIOP). 4 to 6 half-day
seminars/workshops each year and an annual dinner meeting. Newsletter. Job

CODESP (Cooperative Organization for the Development of Employee
Selection Procedures). A consortium of classified personnel departments in
Nevada and California public school districts. Several general membership and
training meetings each year. Newsletter. Share test-item data bank. Over 100

COP (College of Organizational Psychologists, Australia). Branches in
North South Wales and Victoria and is affiliated with the Australian

CO-WYO I-O (Colorado-Wyoming Association of I-O Psychologists).
Meetings 3 to 4 times a year to discuss a wide range of IO topics. Nearly 125
members. Meetings occur along the Front Range, in Gods country. Bulletin

Competency Consortium. Consortium providing a forum for organizations
to share competency models, applications, lessons learned and benchmark best

Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations.
Founded 1996 to aid advancement of research and practice related to emotional
intelligence in organizations. Currently made up of 8 founding members and 15
additional members who are individuals with a strong record of accomplishment as

CSIOP (I-O Division of the Canadian Psychology Association). Quarterly
newsletter. Hosts workshops at CPA annual conference. Job and internship

EAWOP (European Association of Work and Organizational Psychologists).
A network of networks liking together I-O groups from several European nations.

GIOP (Gateway I-O Psychologists). Bimonthly meetings in the St. Louis

HAIOP (Houston Association of I-O Psychologists). Monthly meetings
during the academic year. CE I-O credits available. Newsletter. About 80

HFES (Human Factors and Ergonomics Society). 5,000 members strong, and
in existence since 1957! About 60 local chapters and 20 technical groups
internationally. Annual meeting usually in October. Monthly newsletter and 2

HODN (Heartland Organization Development Network, Kansas City area).
An association of Midwest OD practitioners representing professional roles in
private industry, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and consultants
who engage in private practice and/or teach. Heartland OD is a values-based
professional community, which supports its members in their work in human
organization and systems development, and offers leadership and scholarship to

HRPS (Human Resource Planning Society). National group for senior HR
consultants, academics and Fortune 500 practitioners. 3,000 members.
Focus is on applying strategic HR management practices to organizations.
Sponsors research. Over a dozen seminars/workshops each year and an annual
conference. Quarterly journal and newsletter. 11 affiliate chapters in US.
Affiliated with European HR Forum (EHRF) and Australian HR Institute (AHRI).

IPMA (International Personnel Management Association). The SHRM
for public sector HR generalists. 50 local chapters. Offers online ordering of

IPMA-Assessment Council. A subset of IPMA. Focuses on recruitment,
selection and assessment issues primarily in the public sector. 600 members. No
local chapters. Bimonthly newsletter. Other publications. Online bulletin board.

ISPI (International Society for Performance Improvement). A
39-year-old group of performance technology folks. 10,000 members. Many
local chapters in US and abroad. Conferences, workshops, journal. Online
discussion group. These folks take training seriously. For more information,

MAIOP (Michigan Association of I-O Psychologists). Four meetings a
year in the Detroit area. About 150 members from SE Michigan, northern Ohio, and

MAPAC (Mid-Atlantic Personnel Assessment Consortium, Inc.). An
association of mid-Atlantic public sector agencies interested in assessment. 3
conferences a year and a newsletter. Around 23 member agencies. www.ipmaac.org/mapac/.
Mayflower Group. Founded in 1971, consortium of blue-chip companies
employing at least 10,000 U.S.-based employees. Dedicated to employee opinion
surveys. Limited membership with a tough qualification process. 2 meetings per

METRO (Metropolitan New York Association for Applied Psychology).
Grandma of all I-O groups, founded in 1939. Monthly meetings, newsletter, job

MPPAW (Minnesota Professionals for Psychology Applied to Work).
Energetic new group started in 1998. Well organized. Seven monthly meetings
during the academic year in the Twin Cities area. About 200 members. Newsletter.

NCIOP (North Carolina Industrial and Organizational Psychologists).
Professional network of, at present, some 100 I-O professionals from
universities, corporations, and private practices. Meets twice a year for a

NESAP (New England Society for Applied Psychologists). Informal group
of senior psychologists open to new blood. About two dozen members. Two meetings

Northwest Conversations. An informal association of assessment
professionals in the Pacific Northwest. Annual 2day conference in Seattle.

ODI (Organization Development Institute). Newsletter, journal, job

OH-IO (Ohio I-O Psychologists). A newer group struggling to come alive
in central Ohio. Three to four evening meetings planned per year. Want to

ODN (Organization Development Network). 3,200 members. Works closely
with 36 regional ODN groups. Yearly fall national conference, special interest

PAI (Psychological Assessment Initiative, South Africa). Focuses on
marketing and educating people about psychological assessment, validation
studies, and ethics of use. 16 individual and 22 organizational/corporate

Performance America Learning. A network devoted to assessing and
improving government performance through organizational assessment and
development. Similar to Mayflower Group in goals and objectives. Current members

PTC/A (Personnel Testing Council of Arizona). Quarterly workshops in

PTC/MW (Personnel Testing Council of Metropolitan Washington, DC).
About 300 members. Monthly meetings, periodic workshops, and an excellent
