Editorial Transitions
Jeff Edwards assumed the editorship of Organizational Behavior and
Human Decision Processes on July 1, 2001. Jeff follows Dan Ilgen, who
served 3 years as editor, 13 years as associate editor under Jim Naylor, and 8
years as a board member, totaling nearly 25 years with the journal. During
Dans editorial term, Jeff served along with Elke Weber as associate editor,
during which time the editorial team received nearly 700 manuscripts and
published approximately 140 articles. Looking forward, Jeff is joined by
associate editors Terry Connolly, Dave Harrison, and Scott Highhouse,
and nearly 60 board members. The editors will work together to maintain OBHDP
as a premiere outlet for research that spans organizational behavior,
organizational psychology, and human cognition, judgment, and decision-making.
For more information regarding the future of OBHDP, please see the
article written by Jeff that appears in this issue of TIP.
Shelly Zedeck is the editor-elect of Journal of Applied Psychology,
taking the reins from Kevin Murphy at the close of his 6-year term as
editor at the end of December 2002. According to Kevin, being editor of JAP
has been the hardest, most rewarding and most interesting job I have ever
had. To date, Kevin has received over 2,600 new manuscript submissions and
over 1,000 revisions. He has handled this load with the assistance of his
associate editors, Jim Breaugh, Bob Dipboye and Lois Tetrick,
as well as 69 editorial board members and a pool of over 725 ad hoc reviewers.
Kevin will continue to accept manuscripts through the end of 2002. As the
incoming editor, Shelly feels that JAP is already first-rate. He
plans to be receptive to publishing qualitative research, to encourage articles
that have an international or global perspective, and to urge basic cognitive
researchers to consider JAP as an outlet for the applied aspects of their
work.
Ann Marie Ryan will become the next editor of Personnel Psychology
at the completion of John Hollenbecks 6-year term in December 2002. At
the end of his term, Johns team, which includes associate editor James
Smither, editorial assistant Patty Hollenbeck, 45 editorial board members,
and over 150 ad hoc reviewers, will have been responsible for the publication of
150 articles. John looks forward to seeing the influence this work has on
theory, practice, and future research in our discipline. He says the toughest
part of the editors job is sending out so many rejection letters (close to
900) knowing that decision making isnt 100% accurate and that some
potentially great manuscripts got away. Ann Marie looks forward to continuing
Personnel Psychologys tradition of publishing quality applied research.
