The SIOP Volunteer System (SVS)

For the 2018-2019 membership year, incremental changes have been made to the SVS. The system was re-designed last year to be easier to use for both volunteers and chairs, more intuitive, and largely autonomous. Most of the new changes affect committee chairs, making it easier for them to perform tasks. A new checkbox on the volunteer form allows members to indicate their interest in external volunteer opportunities.

Every request to join a committee will be reviewed, and nobody will be overlooked in the selection process. Because some committees are more popular than others, you are urged to volunteer early, as the committee you really had your heart on being a part of may not have a position for you if you delay in volunteering.

A note to students: SIOP has over 4,000 student members and fewer than 30 committees that accept students, and only one student may serve on a committee. If you are a student and were unable to get a slot on a committee, SIOP has other opportunities for you to volunteer, particularly during our annual conference.

If your membership in SIOP is not up-to-date (renewed through June 2019), you will not be able to use the system.

How to volunteer:

Log in to http://my.siop.org with your SIOP username and password.

When you are logged in, go to this page:

If you are not logged in to my.siop, you will be asked to log in before you can proceed.

The volunteer screen has a very simple layout:

If you are already a member of a standing committee, you will not be allowed to join another standing committee, but you will be allowed to volunteer for an ad hoc committee.

After you have made your choice(s), you MUST click on the  Submit Committee Selections  button at the bottom of the page.

After you have submitted your choices, you will receive an email from the system for each choice you have made:

If the chair accepts your request to join a committee, you will immediately receive an email like the following:

As soon as the chair accepts your request to join the committee, your SIOP membership record will be updated, reflecting your service on the committee and entitling you to access to any restricted information belonging to the committee.

There will be times, unfortunately, when the chair has to turn down your request. The system requires that you be given a reason for the rejection. Should you be turned down, you will receive an email like the following:

That’s it! As soon as you submit your choices, each chair will have access to the one that pertains to his/her committee. Then, as soon as the chair makes a choice to accept or reject a volunteer, you will be notified by email and your information will become a part of your membership record. Upon your acceptance, your other standing committee choices will be purged from the system, but if any of those other choices were ad hoc committees or awards subcommittees, they will be left in the system. If you do not wish to be considered for another committee, please re-visit the volunteer page and delete those entries.
