The 36th SIOP Annual Conference offers a plethora of high-quality educational sessions and community-building networking and social events.
To start, you will need to log into Whova, the primary conference platform and the access point for all conference content, including educational programming and networking opportunities. You must sign into Whova with the email address you used for SIOP conference registration (other email addresses will not provide access). Visit the How to Conference webpage for more information.
This year, there are three main types of educational presentations:
Posters: Live poster presentations were held April 14. In case you missed it, don’t worry! Poster content will be available on Whova until May 7.
Live Sessions: Today through Saturday, interact with presenters, ask questions, even participate in breakout discussions during live sessions. Some of these sessions will be recorded for access in Whova later, but the live option is only available once.
Asynchronous (Prerecorded) Sessions: Access these presentations on demand as your schedule permits. More than 150 sessions are available to be viewed in Whova at any time, in any time zone.
Whova's Agenda also contains all interactive breaks, events, and receptions, so be sure to search for live engagement opportunities.

New this year is a unique Closing Event, which will follow the Closing Plenary on Saturday, April 17. You can also add a little NOLA flavor to your conference experience by visiting our NOLA Local Flavor webpage or participating in our first-ever virtual Frank Landy 5K Fun Run.

Today’s activities kick off at 8 a.m. CT with the Opening Plenary showcasing SIOP’s highest awards and introductions to the newest SIOP Fellows. This event will feature Georgia Chao’s Presidential Address with reflections on her theme, Moving Forward, following a must-see introduction by the incoming president, Steven Rogelberg, and a surprise guest.

Friday, April 16
The Friday Reception, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. CT in Virtual Chair, will offer both educational and social events. Grab a seat at one of the roundtable conversations on the Top 10 Work Trends, featuring champions and experts in the field (held 6:30–7:30 p.m. CT in the Discussion Room). Or kick back and relax on a bench in Jackson Square while enjoying a unique virtual tour of the French Quarter’s creole cuisine, architecture, and history (30 min. starting at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT).
Saturday, April 17
Every year SIOP and the SIOP Foundation present numerous awards recognizing excellence in professional and student work in the field of industrial-organizational psychology. For 2021, 7 SIOP members are being honored with distinguished awards and 12 members are receiving Fellow status.
These members will be recognized at today’s Opening Plenary, which begins at 8 a.m. CT. The event will also feature Georgia Chao’s Presidential Address with reflections on her theme, Moving Forward, following a must-see introduction by the incoming president, Steven Rogelberg, and a surprise guest.
In addition, four award recipients will host live, interactive sessions Thursday, April 15
Three inaugural awards were added this year: the Joel Lefkowitz Early Career Award for Humanistic Industrial-Organizational Psychology, the Graen Grant for Student Research on Leaders and Teams, and the P. Richard Jeanneret Grant for Research About Assessing and Developing Senior Leaders (this is a one-time award).
SIOP has been recognizing the outstanding contributions of members by granting Fellow status throughout its history. To be considered for SIOP Fellow status, a member must be nominated by another member and endorsed by at least three more SIOP Fellows. A member who has been active in the Society for 10 years or more is eligible based on meaningful, sustained, and unusual impact on the field.
SIOP Distinguished Awards are given in recognition of either a lifetime of outstanding contributions or distinguished early career contributions to the practice or science of industrial and organizational psychology; sustained, significant, and outstanding service to SIOP; a sustained record of excellence in the teaching of I-O psychology; and sustained, significant, and outstanding humanitarian contributions related to I-O psychology.

This year, continuing education credits for psychologists and human resource professionals are available for individuals who attended a Preconference Workshop, the Advanced Professional Development (APD) Program, and/or a Friday Seminar. We are unable to offer CE credit for attending the regular live or asynchronous conference sessions or plenaries.

Workshop, APD, and Friday Seminar attendees should take the CE-Request Survey to notify SIOP that you would like to receive credit. After you request CE credit, you will receive an evaluation of the event from our evaluation partner, Mercer | Sirota. CE seekers are urged to complete that evaluation. The results of the evaluation are shared in aggregate with APA, HRCI, and SHRM to demonstrate the value of the program and help SIOP improve on our future CE offerings.
Within 30 days of each CE-qualifying event, attendees who requested CE credit will receive a letter from SIOP confirming their attendance. The CE confirmation letter will include the necessary information needed to gain credit from the APA, HRCI, and SHRM, such as Activity IDs.
The Preconference Workshops, the Advanced Professional Development Program, and the Friday Seminars are not registered with the State of New York to offer continuing education credits for psychologists. Yesterday, we met up with first-time SIOP Conference attendee Kevin Sullivan, who, in addition to being a student in Louisiana Tech University’s I-O Psychology Ph.D. Program, is a Project Manager at AROS Consulting. Here’s what he told us about his interest in I-O psychology: “My I-O interests include strategies to combat counterproductive work behaviors, motivation in the workplace, and job attitudes. I thought I-O psychology seemed ‘avant-garde’ when I was introduced to all the areas of psychology as a first-year student, so I decided to take an Intro I-O course during my following undergraduate years. The professor was articulate in teaching the class and I became fully immersed in I-O. I immediately began working for their research lab and I haven’t looked back since.
I have been a SIOP member since taking that Intro I-O course in the fall of 2018. Due to timing conflicts with school and work, I have not been able to attend a SIOP conference until this year. Even though it is a virtual conference, I am thrilled to attend my first SIOP conference to network with people who share similar interests. I also have the desire to learn more about new areas of research that others are interested in.”
Since we couldn’t be in New Orleans together this year, Kevin also shared a fun fact about his city:
“In New Orleans, if someone asks you what school you went to, you are normally supposed to respond with your high school, not your college. This is why high school teachers in New Orleans tell their students to always put high schools on their resume.”
