New Book in the Professional Practice Book Series Now Available

A new book in the SIOP Professional Practice Book Series, The Age of Agility: Building Learning Agile Leaders and Organizations, is now available. Edited by Veronica Schmidt Harvey and Kenneth P. De Meuse, this volume focuses on learning agility, one of the most important trends in the business world during the past decade.

The Age of Agility: Building Learning Agile Leaders and Organizations comprehensively synthesizes knowledge on learning agility using perspectives from more than 50 academicians, researchers, talent practitioners, and executive coaches, several of whom are SIOP members, from multiple countries. This book enhances our knowledge of learning agility, distilling, and synthesizing scientific evidence with best practices and examining the construct through both practical and scientific lenses.

Surveys have found that learning agility is the most frequently used criterion to measure leadership potential. Yet despite this popularity, there is a need to examine the construct more systematically. This volume brings together more than 50 authors with backgrounds in both academic research and talent management practice to address crucial questions such as: What specifically is learning agility? How many facets or dimensions does it have? How do we measure it? How can it be developed in leaders and organizations?

Author, speaker, consultant, and prior Closing Keynote Speaker at a SIOP Annual Conference, Dave Ulrich had this to say about the book: “Each chapter in this incredible collection of essays is a masterpiece replete with theories and ideas, research and evidence, and numerous tools and action items. Each chapter couples academic rigor with real world relevance.”

Schmidt Harvey is founder and principal of Schmidt Harvey Consulting and supports organizations in building strong, healthy leadership pipelines. Previously she was a partner at Aon Hewitt and has supported over a hundred organizations in accelerating the development of capabilities that allow leaders to not only survive, but thrive.

De Meuse is founder and president of the De Meuse Leadership Group LLC, a global network of more than 250 coaches certified on the TALENTx7® Assessment. Prior to establishing his firm, he had senior leadership positions at Tercon Consulting and Korn Ferry International as well as was on the faculties of Iowa State University and the University of Wisconsin.

The SIOP Professional Practice Book Series can help solve today’s most pressing talent management issues in organizations using evidence-based practice from the field of industrial and organizational psychology.

Working with Oxford University Press, the Professional Practice Series Editorial Board is committed to bringing a new generation of practice-oriented books to industrial–organizational (I-O) psychologists, human resource practitioners, and policymakers.

Relaunched in 2019 after a brief publishing hiatus, the series will incorporate new volumes on the “basics” of HR management and develop volumes focused on “core” I-O psychology topics that include the latest research and best practices.
