Division 14 Regains APA Council Seat

Last year, Division 14 lost an American Psychological Association (APA) Council of Representatives seat for 2023 through the apportionment process. We are pleased to announce that this year, when SIOP members who are also APA members were asked to allocate their votes among the APA divisions, Division 14 earned that seat back for 2024.

This Council seat is essential to ensuring that SIOP’s voice—and the collective voice of applied psychologists—is heard within the APA.

“It was great to see our members really step up and vote to increase SIOP’s voice within APA through the apportionment process,” said SIOP APA Council Representative Gavan O’Shea. “So many issues come before Council that are relevant to I-O psychology—from the ongoing ethics code revision to efforts to establish a Committee for the Advancement of Applied Psychology within the APA governance structure—and it is critical for SIOP to have a seat at the table.”

The APA Council of Representatives makes decisions about many items of critical interest to SIOP members, including practice issues, advocacy, the science agenda, and research funding. The more representatives we have, the stronger our voice in APA, and the better we can ensure that APA's activities and spending consider our specific needs.

SIOP will begin accepting nominations for two new APA Council Representatives in January. Voting SIOP members who are also APA members, please watch your email for more details.
