The SIOP Foundation is proud to partner with SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) to offer a unique internship opportunity for graduate students pursuing careers in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Designed for students with an interest in human resources, talent management, and people analytics, this internship provides meaningful, hands-on experience at the intersection of I-O psychology and HR practice.

Working alongside SHRM's Thought Leadership team, interns will help translate evidence-based research into practical solutions that address today's workplace challenges while gaining valuable experience with one of the world's leading HR organizations.

Internship Responsibilities

As a SHRM I-O Psychology Intern, you will contribute to projects that bridge people science and organizational practice. Depending on organizational priorities, project work may include:

  • Workforce research and HR trend analysis
  • Talent acquisition and selection best practices
  • Employee engagement and organizational effectiveness
  • Learning, development, and performance management initiatives
  • HR metrics, data analysis, and evidence-based recommendations
  • The impact of automation and artificial intelligence on the workforce
  • Talent strategy and labor market research
  • Translating academic I-O psychology research into practical HR applications

Internship Details

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 20 hours per week

Work Arrangement

  • Fully remote
  • Some availability during the business day is expected to collaborate with SHRM colleagues
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments

Program Duration

One-half of an academic year (one semester or two academic quarters)

Fall Term

  • September through the end of November

Spring Term

  • February through the end of April

Flexible start and end dates are available for both terms.

Eligibility

This internship is intended for SIOP Student Members who:

  • Are currently enrolled in a graduate program in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or a related field
  • Have a strong interest in applying psychological science to HR strategy and organizational practice
  • Are passionate about talent management, workforce development, and organizational effectiveness
  • Are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a remote environment
