Frank Landy 5K Fun Run - First Ever Virtual Fun Run

A virtual 5K is a lot like a traditional one - except YOU choose when and where to run! Register online, and when you run, record your route and results via the RunKeeper app!

Keep SIOP’s 5K Fun Run tradition alive by participating virtually. Even though we can’t meet in person this year, you can still participate in this annual event by running wherever you want anytime during the conference. In the past, we have been constrained to be finished before the day’s first session. This year, we don’t have any constraints, so there’s no pressure to run the 5K… walk it if you want! Use this event as an excuse to get a bit of exercise during the conference when it suits you best!

    • Sign in using the email you used to register and create a password if prompted.
    • Click "View Registration" under the SIOP event and then scroll down to the teal "Connect to the app" button. You will be redirected to the Runkeeper app. Follow the prompts within the Runkeeper app to create your account.

  4. Start the app to track your route and time.
  5. Run or walk your race!
  6. Congratulate yourself on a race well done!

You can connect a smart watch or fitness device with the Runkeeper app, including Apple Watch, TomTom, Garmin, and Fitbit. Please see instructions  here: How-do-I-use-ASICS-Runkeeper-app-to-post-my-results-on-Race-Roster-while-using-a-Apple-Watch-Garmin-Watch-or-Fitbit

If you have any issues connecting your registration to the Runkeeper app, you can use the Runkeeper app to track your distance and time, and then enter your time manually on the results.

To record your time manually, please visit the results page and sign in. If you are not able to connect to the SIOP Virtual 5K within the app you can use the app to time your 5K, and then enter your time on the results page. Follow the prompts to record your race time.

Be recognized for your super speed!

If you finish in the top three in your age/gender group (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and over), you will be mentioned in TIP.

Are you running with someone? Enter our team competition! We have several two-person team categories (advisor-advisee, mixed-doubles (however you want to define that), and scientist-practitioner), and a 4-person university or organization team category. If you wish to enter the team competition, decide on a team name. You’ll need to provide that team name during registration (note that if you don’t, you may not be part of the team competition as it is very difficult to track outside the registration process).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when I’ve gone 5 kilometers?

The Runkeeper app will track your route and distance. If you’re tracking your route in miles, 5 kilometers is approximately 3.11 miles.

Can I participate with a team?

Yes. We have the same team options as we have had in the past: 4-person university or organization teams, 2-person scientist/practitioner or advisor/advisee or mixed doubles (however you want to define that) teams. Just be sure to indicate this when you register. In addition, you don’t have to run with your team (you don’t have to be co-located), so you can team up with anyone around the world!
