The SIOP Annual Conference helps to support the vision of SIOP, namely, to be recognized as the premier professional group committed to advancing the science and practice of the psychology of work. The conference is also key to supporting SIOP’s mission to enhance human well-being and performance in organizational and work settings by promoting the science, practice, and teaching of industrial-organizational psychology. The SIOP conference will contain three full days of programming appealing to a wide variety of academics and practitioners.

The SIOP Program Committee welcomes proposals aligned to SIOP core values. In particular, proposals should demonstrate contributions to improving the effectiveness of organizations and the well-being of individuals in the workforce, and reflect excellence in education, research and practice of I-O psychology.

Below are a few notes related to the current year’s situation:

  • We recognize that some 2020 accepted sessions did not opt into the fully asynchronous virtual format earlier this year.  These sessions may be resubmitted for consideration for the 2021 conference , but we cannot guarantee they will be accepted (acceptance will depend on ratings of newly assigned reviewers).  Additionally, we strongly encourage submitters to consider ways to update or revise these resubmissions if possible  (e.g., modifying them to better fit the context of the rapidly changing world of work).
  • In terms of format, given the uncertainty of how the pandemic will evolve, we encourage sessions to be designed so that they can be easily modified to be presented in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person live, virtual live, asynchronous).
  • We would like to encourage submissions that can think creatively about how to foster interaction among virtual participants as we anticipate that a portion of SIOP 2021 attendees will be virtual only attendees.  Additionally, depending upon the public health guidelines at the time of the conference, sessions involving group discussion may need to adopt a virtual medium (e.g. virtual breakout rooms).
  • We understand that the current pandemic has led to some disruption in data collection efforts as well as the need for new research topics and data gathering. Because of the value of disseminating cutting edge research at the conference, we are encouraging the submission of sessions that include research projects that may have only partially complete data collection at the time of submission and will provide instructions to conference reviewers requesting for more leniency than usual this year when reviewing sessions with incomplete data collection.

Finally, we are asking for your patience during this constantly evolving pandemic situation.  Please know that we are working hard to find a way to best meet the needs and expectations of the SIOP community while planning for any number of contingencies.  We are always open to feedback and ideas so feel free to email us at program@siop.org if you have questions or ideas related to improving the program content of the conference!
