Current Initiatives

SIOP and the United Nations

Since its inception, the SIOP UN Committee has undertaken a number of efforts to help the UN achieve its goals and mandates.  A few of these efforts are described below.

Learning & Innovation Speaker Series. SIOP has partnered with the UN Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) to co-create a speaker series that provides UN human resources professionals all around the world with the latest information in research, theory and practices on a range of work psychology topics. SDG Annotated Bibliographies. SIOP members from different graduate programs are supporting the UN Committee’s efforts by creating annotated bibliographies that summarize relevant research and practices for each of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These bibliographies provide committee members with a wealth of information that can be used to answer UN queries and provide evidence-based guidance.

Consulting. The UN Committee has helped facilitate several initiatives whereby SIOP members provide consulting services and guidance to different UN entities. Some of these include:

  •   presenting research on best practices for using engagement surveys.
  •   sounding board discussions with UN Development Program (UNDP) representatives to provide guidance on ways to enhance the UNDP Rewards and Recognition Program.
  •   assisting the Psychology Coalition of the UN (PCUN) with team building and goal setting.
  •   helping the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific improve its performance management system and practices.
  •   revising leadership competencies and providing guidance on talent management activities for the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Outreach. The committee engages in a number of outreach activities, many of which can be found on our Communications page. The committee writes and publishes regularly. Updates about the committee’s activities and commentaries written by our members can regularly be found in TIP and SIOP’s IOP Journal.  Additionally, the committee has produced resources to help interested graduate programs join the UN Global Compact, which can be found on our “Get Involved” page. {LINK}  The committee has also facilitated or supported SIOP in creating official statements on UN-related issues.
