Conference Advice (Mostly) for First-Time Attendees and Students

The 2024 SIOP Annual Conference is right around the corner and will feature diverse educational sessions, add-on events, and networking.

Because large conferences can be overwhelming for first-time attendees and students, we’ve compiled the following resources. If you haven’t attended a conference in a while, or are a seasoned pro looking for a refresher, you may also find the following helpful.

This TIP article provides helpful information on how to make the most of the conference. We also offer a list of tips on our website that includes suggestions for before, during, and after the conference, such as downloading the Whova app. If you are participating in the Ambassador Program, watch for emails from the program organizers to attend their separately scheduled events.

For those attending in-person in Chicago, Conference Space Tours will be held 4-5 p.m. CT Wednesday, April 17, and 8:30-9:30 a.m. CT Thursday, April 18, for attendees to become familiar with the conference space. The tour will depart from the Hyatt Regency lobby promptly at 4 p.m. CT Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. CT Thursday. To confirm your attendance and request specific items for inclusion in the walk-through (such as gender-neutral bathrooms or a quiet reflection room), please complete this brief form. Completing this form is preferred, but not required; if you are unsure about your plans at this time, you can still join the tour without RSVPing.

Please also join us for the Newcomer Welcome Reception at 5:45 p.m. CT Wednesday, April 17, in the Hyatt Regency Chicago Crystal Ballroom.

The SIOP Education and Training Committee has also created a session and event list to help you quickly find the events and sessions that you may find most interesting. Finally, you can review the Program Search and Conference website for important information.

We look forward to seeing you in person, or online, at the 2024 SIOP Annual Conference!
