Member Criteria

SIOP Members must meet the following criteria: 

  • Hold a doctoral degree based in part upon a psychological dissertation
    • The degree must be from a regionally accredited U.S. graduate school or one of equivalent standing if outside the U.S.
    • If the degree title is NOT “Industrial-Organizational Psychology,” please provide any combination of two of the following
      • Abstract of an article published in an I-O psychology-related journal
      • List of I-O psychology-related courses taught
      • Letter of recommendation written by current SIOP Fellow or Member
      • Copy of unpublished research or evaluation report in an I-O-related area
  • Engaged in I-O psychology study or professional activities as stated in Article I, Section 2 of the Society’s  Bylaws
  • Present a current resume that includes:
    • Title of doctoral dissertation and abstract
    • Most recent employment history

Application Process

Click the Become a Member button to begin your Member membership application 

  • Create a new account or login to SIOP.org 
  • On your Personal Snapshot, click Join Now under Membership. 
  • Provide required background information relevant to Society application purposes 
  • Select Professional membership type 
  • Provide required educational and career information relevant to Society application purposes 
  • Upload your current resume as an attachment
    • You may also upload additional documentation during this stage 
      • Dissertation 
      • Abstract of an article published in an I-O-related journal 
      • List of I-O-related courses you have taught 
      • Letter of recommendation written by current SIOP Fellow or Member 
      • Copy of unpublished research or evaluation report in an I-O-related area 
  • You have an opportunity to purchase SIOP Research Gateway 
  • You are given the chance to donate to the SIOP Foundation
  • Click Submit Application to proceed to checkout where you will be asked to pay current Member dues
  • Enter your payment information and billing address and Submit to complete the process 
  • After your application is submitted, an internal review process begins  

This process involves both SIOP staff and the SIOP Membership Committee Application Subcommittee.

Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for review. During peak application periods, processing times may be longer.
