What sparked your interest in I-O psychology?
I was always interested in psychology but had more of a data/math orientation (and skill set), and also a very practical/business perspective, so I-O psychology was a perfect fit for my skills and interests!
What role do you see I-O psychology playing in the future of work?
We are at a pivotal point in history, and I feel it is the prerogative of I-O psychologists to help drive evidence-based changes that promote social justice and healthy workplaces across all areas of work, even expanding into areas that have been generally under-researched in the past such as the informal work sector.
Which of the Top 10 Workplace Trends for 2020 do you most strongly relate to and how can I-O psychology practitioners, educators, and students impact this trend?
Trend #2 (Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity) is a trend that I relate to most. I recently organized the Inclusion Theme Track for the 2020 conference, and the amazing committee members and speakers taught me invaluable lessons and highlighted the huge impact our field can have on promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity across organizations.
How long have you been a SIOP member?
Nearly 20 years (including student membership)
What roles have you had within SIOP?
Program chair (current), Workshops Committee chair, Conference Local Affairs coordinator, Professional Practice Committee member, Visibility Committee member, Awards Task Force member
What is one of your favorite SIOP annual conference memories/highlights?
Participating in the surprise flash mob dance that occurred in the closing reception in 2019 (50+ people surprised the attendees by entering the dance floor and doing a coordinated dance to the Dolly Parton song “9 to 5”)!
What advice would you give to students or early practitioners?
Get involved in SIOP! It’s a lot of fun and leads to lifelong friendships and a sense of connectedness to the field.
Please share one non-I-O-related bit of information about yourself.
I’m an identical twin (see photo below) and have four children ages 2-14 (who keep me very busy)!
Is there anything you would like to add?
Guess which one is me!
