I am a Professor of I-O at George Mason University. As such, I teach in our scientist-practitioner PhD and terminal MA programs (I also serve as Director of our MA program) as well as in our practitioner-focused Master of Professional Studies (MPS) program. For many years, I additionally served as the faculty advisor to our little in-house consulting firm franchise, the Volunteer Program Assessment, which teaches our graduate students consulting skills while providing consulting services at no cost to nonprofit organizations. I have, moreover, served as chair of the Department of Psychology, on numerous search committees (e.g., for the Dean of our Business School), and in several other administrative roles.

I am also deeply committed to evidence-based practice. I have served on the Advisory Board of a startup (oddly, alongside former Governor of Ohio John Kasich), worked on a large cybersecurity project funded by the Department of Homeland Security and its Swedish and Dutch counterparts, collaborated with several well-known I-O consulting firms, and served as an independent consultant. At a personal level, I’m part of a practitioner-scientist couple: my wife, Dr. Carra Sims, is an I-O practitioner and SIOP member!

I have been a SIOP member for over 20 years and a Fellow since 2018. I recently served on the Executive Board as Publications Portfolio Officer. I furthermore chaired SIOP’s Association for Psychological Science committee, was slated to chair the International Affairs Committee (but could not serve because this coincided with my prior election to the Executive Board), and served on four additional committees.
