The Dynamics of P–E Fit: Implications for Career Sustainability Across Career Stages
Dear colleagues,
What happens when the fit between a person and their work changes over the course of a career? We are pleased to invite proposals for a special issue of Work, Aging and Retirement exploring how person-environment (P-E) fit develops, is disrupted, and can be sustained across career stages.
We welcome empirical, conceptual, and methodological contributions that advance understanding of the dynamics of fit and their implications for career sustainability. Possible questions include:
- How do changing abilities, needs, values, and work demands shape fit over time?
- What happens when career transitions or unexpected events disrupt fit?
- How can individuals and organisations recognise misfit and create conditions for more sustainable careers?
We especially welcome work that connects P–E fit with experiences across early-, mid-, and late-career stages.
Key dates: Proposals of up to 1,000 words, excluding references, are due 14 April 2027. Please submit them through the journal’s online system, selecting ‘Research Proposal’ as the manuscript type. The full manuscript submission window is 1 November – 1 December 2027.
Guest co-editors: Slavka Silberg (Palacký University Olomouc), Beatrice van der Heijden (Radboud University Nijmegen), Ans De Vos (University of Antwerp and Antwerp Management School), and Jos Akkermans (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam).
Please read the full Call for Papers for the scope, submission instructions, and guest co-editors’ contact details.
We look forward to receiving your proposals!
