The June Work Smart workshop, Inclusion in Flux: Culture Meets Strategy, was well received by an audience including SIOP members and non-members eager to understand the evolving landscape of workplace inclusion. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Mikki Hebl (Rice University), Sertrice Shipley (Plan to Action), and Joanna L. Colosimo (DCI Consulting). Drawing on their expertise in research, practice, and law, the presenters engaged participants in a highly interactive session, providing practical insights into navigating the intersections of inclusion and belonging research, legal developments, and current organizational practices.
The three speakers explored the history, current state, and future of workplace inclusion through the lenses of research, law, and practice, with Hebl highlighting key research findings, Colosimo examining legal developments, and Shipley sharing practitioner insights and organizational applications. The speakers highlighted key developments that have shaped workplace inclusion, examined current opportunities and challenges, and shared perspectives on how organizations can continue to foster inclusive environments moving forward. Participants engaged in breakout discussions to reflect on the impact of research, legal developments, and workplace practices in their own organizations, and to identify actions that can be sustained and adapted in the current climate. Through facilitated debriefs and a collaborative Ask Me Anything session, attendees explored practical applications of the speakers’ insights, exchanged ideas with peers, and considered future directions for advancing workplace inclusion
Participant responses to the workshop were overwhelmingly positive as100% of respondents indicated that the program fulfilled its learning objectives, was worth their time, and motivated them to apply what they have learned. Example participant comments include: “The speakers were a great mix of research, application, and legal issues. Such a great balance!” and “this terrific group of speakers…beautifully embodied our field’s commitment to science and evidence-based practice!” Participants also mentioned the value of the academic research and legal cases, along with other resources.
You can still register to access the workshop recording, all the materials that were shared, and additional resources at Inclusion in Flux: Culture Meets Strategy.
