Federal agencies have issued large-scale Reduction in Force (RIF) actions through the past weeks, firing federal employees. While no official tally has been issued, reported estimates reach into the tens of thousands, mostly affecting employees in the probationary period, meaning they have been on the job for only 1-2 years. A judge recently ruled that the Trump Administration could move forward with these firings, in response to a lawsuit from federal employee unions. In addition to the firings, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has said that approximately 75,000 federal employees have accepted “deferred resignation” proposals to leave their jobs in exchange for financial incentives, such as increased severance pay.
