SIOP Endorses Dr. Margaret Bull Kovera for APA President-Elect

The APA launched its annual election for President-Elect on August 3. We want to continue to elect leaders who are committed to engaging applied psychologists in the work of APA. If you are a SIOP member who is also an APA voting member and have submitted your vote, thank you! If you haven’t, please cast your ballot before 11:59 p.m. ET on September 16.

We have made great strides over the past several years in our partnership with APA, thanks in part to the election of leaders who value I-O and applied psychology. To continue this progress, SIOP/APA Division 14 is endorsing Dr. Margaret Bull Kovera for President-Elect.

Bull Kovera is a Presidential Scholar and Professor in the Department of Psychology at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York. SIOP endorses her candidacy for APA President-Elect due to her extensive leadership and service to psychology. Her many roles and achievements in APA and applied psychology include:

• Current elected member of APA’s Board of Directors
• Served two elected terms on APA’s Council of Representatives
• Recipient of the Distinguished Career Contributions to Psychology and Law award from the American Psychology-Law Society (APA Division 41)
• Past-President of the American Psychology-Law Society (APA Division 41)
• Former Editor-in-Chief of Law and Human Behavior (published by APA)
• Outstanding Teacher and Mentor in Psychology and Law Award
• Distinguished Teaching Award at John Jay College
• Distinguished Service Award, Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (APA Division 9)
• Fellow of APA (including Divisions 8, 9, & 41) and the Association for Psychological Science

If elected, Kovera would bring over 30 years of research and leadership experience as an applied social psychologist, and an internationally recognized expert on eyewitness identification and legal decision-making. She would support greater APA engagement internally (across APA Divisions, Boards and Committees, and SPTAs) as well as externally (with policymakers, educators, and the general public).
