Earlier this year, the American Psychological Association (APA) released its annual Trends Report, highlighting nine emerging trends in psychological science.
According to the APA, “These trends reflect a field in motion: from integrated care and AI-driven tools to new approaches in advocacy, workplace well-being, science communication, and mental health for children and teens. They reveal both challenges and opportunities for psychologists to lead with insight and impact.”
The nine emerging trends are:
- AI, neuroscience, and data are fueling personalized mental health care
- AI chatbots and digital companions are reshaping emotional connection
- Psychologists are reimagining how society supports children
- Advocacy is becoming central to the field of psychology
- Policy shifts are impacting psychologists’ ability to deliver care
- Psychologists are reimagining how society supports children
- Worsening weather is driving smarter behavioral interventions
- Storytelling strengthens the impact of psychological science
- Integrated care is an opportunity and an imperative
