Did you know that SIOP is a sponsor of BOHSI, the Board on Human-Systems Integration? BOHSI—a standing committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine—focuses on understanding how people, organizations, and technology interact in workplace systems. BOHSI brings together experts from disciplines such as I-O, human factors and ergonomics, cognitive science, and engineering to address challenges related to human-centered technology design, workforce systems, safety, and individual and organizational performance. BOHSI’s work includes advising sponsors on research priorities, convening interdisciplinary scientific experts, and advancing evidence-based approaches to the design, testing, and use of complex human-technology systems.
Several SIOP members are or have recently been associated with BOHSI, for instance Tara Behrend (current Committee Chair), Deniz Ones (current Committee Member), Fred Oswald, and Bill Strickland. Other SIOP members have participated in various BOHSI products, such as webinars and reports. Through its sponsorship of BOHSI, SIOP works collaboratively with other BOHSI sponsors (i.e., SHRM, APA, NASA, HFES, and the FAA’s Office of Labor Analysis) on topics of mutual research and public policy focus. Several BOHSI products are likely to be of appreciable interest to SIOP members, and we therefore encourage our members to periodically check the BOHSI website for updates.
Today, we are highlighting BOHSI’s recently recorded, and freely available, two-part artificial intelligence webinar series entitled “AI, Automation, and the Future of Work.” Session 1 of this AI series is on the topic of “Reskilling, Upskilling, and the Evolving Workforce,” whereas Session 2 is on the topic of “Workforce Transformation” (at each link, scroll down a bit to access the video recording). When you watch the videos, look out for some familiar I-O faces!
