National and International Recognition

SIOP members are making their mark on the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), the oldest international association of psychologists. At the XXV International Congress of Applied Psychology, held in Singapore this past July, SIOP Fellow Michael Frese was elected president of IAAP, and SIOP Fellow Milt Hakel was elected to the Board of Directors. SIOP Fellow Lyman Porter leaves the board after 16 years (19862002).

SIOP Fellow Fred E. Fiedler received IAAPs 2002 Award for Distinguished Scientific Contributions to the International Advancement of Applied Psychology. The award recognizes significant and sustained scientific contributions which have had an international impact. Fiedler is Professor Emeritus of Psychology and of Management and Organization at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Dennis Doverspike, SIOP member and professor of psychology at the University of Akron, was elected to the Board of the International Personnel Management Association Assessment Council for a 3-year term beginning in 2003.

Two SIOP members are among the Academy of Managements officers for the 200203 year. Jone L. Pearce, professor in the Graduate School of Management at the University of California at Irvine is serving as president. Denise Rousseau, professor in the School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University is vice-president and program chair. 

Transitions, Appointments, and New Affiliations

SIOP member Herman Aguinis, associate professor of management at the University of Colorado at Denver, has been elected chair of the Research Methods Division of the Academy of Management (http://aom.pace.edu/rmd). Herman encourages you to contact him (Herman.Aguinis@cudenver.edu) with your ideas about ways in which SIOP and the Academys Research Methods Division can engage in collaborative projects.

SIOP member John M. Cornwell, associate professor of psychology at Loyola University New Orleans, has been appointed to the position of assistant provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment.

Gary Johns, SIOP Fellow and professor of management at Concordia Universitys John Molson School of Business in Montreal, has been appointed Concordia University Research Chair in Management.

Gantz Wiley Reseach announces the promotion of SIOP member, Tracy L. Madvig, to consultant, Employee Surveys.

The I-O program at Georgia Institute of Technology is delighted to welcome SIOP member Steve Stark (PhD, University of Illinois). Steve joins Phil Ackerman, Gilad Chen, Jack Feldman, Ruth Kanfer, and Todd Maurer on the I-O faculty.
