Dr. David A. Rodriguez is a public board director and recognized authority in human capital management. He began his career as an I-O psychologist at Avon Products, later advancing to senior HR leadership at Citigroup. In 1998, he joined Marriott International, ultimately serving as Global Chief Human Resources Officer from 2006 to 2021. At Marriott, David led human capital strategy for one of the world’s largest private-sector employers and played a pivotal role in the successful integration of Starwood Hotels, establishing Marriott as the world’s largest hotel company. Under his leadership, Marriott earned repeated recognition as a “best place to work” and a pacesetter in diversity and inclusion.
David currently serves on the boards of American Woodmark, where he chairs the compensation committee, and Globe Life, where he serves on the governance committee, and is a trustee of the SIOP Foundation. He is an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources—the field’s highest honor—and a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the American Psychological Association.
A proud son of U.S. migrants from Puerto Rico, David holds a B.A. and a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from New York University. As a cancer survivor and advocate for employee wellbeing, he is committed to advancing workplace health and inclusion. David lives in the Washington, D.C. area with his family and enjoys reading, playing piano, sports, and travel.
