Dear colleagues,

We are conducting a meta-analysis on the effect of identity-safety cues on facilitating identity safety and other relevant variables. We are writing to request from you unpublished data (e.g., from manuscripts in press, under review, in preparation, theses, or any form of gray or unpublished literature) to include in the meta-analysis.

We are looking for studies that meet all of the inclusion criteria listed here:

  1. Examine identity-safety cues using an experimental design with random assignment (within or between-participants). Identity safety cues are environmental signals that may communicate to marginalized group members that their social identities are valued, that discrimination is unlikely, and/or promote feelings of belonging and trust in the environment.
  2. Present an identity safety cue not combined with any other intervention to individuals with one or more marginalized identities.
  3. Have a control group, where no identity-safety cue or a non-identity related cue is included.
  4. Contain and report measure(s) that assess one or more of the following components: safety, belonging, interest, trust, identity threat, other relevant psychological or behavioral outcomes such as performance, persistence, etc.
  5. Report an effect size reflecting the difference between the identity-safety cue condition and the control condition on the measure(s) assessed or provide enough information to compute this effect size.
  6. Report methods and results in English or Chinese.
  7. Participants must be adults.

We would be grateful if you could share any studies that meet these inclusion criteria and share this request within your networks or with colleagues who may be able to assist. Some researchers may not use the term “identity-safety cue” to describe their focal construct. However, if you think a construct has similar intended effects and the studies meet the criteria above, we would be grateful if you could share the studies with us as well.

To share any studies/work, or if you have any questions about sharing data for the purpose of this meta-analysis, please email Anna Li at li4268@purdue.edu.

Kind regards,
Anna Li and Junming Zhang
