On Sept. 29, BOHSI, the Board on Human-Systems Integration, will offer a free webinar examining how trust, transparency, and situation awareness shape the evolving relationship between humans and increasingly autonomous AI systems.
As AI systems take on more independent and collaborative roles, important questions arise about autonomy, uncertainty, human oversight, and when systems should defer to human judgment. Drawing on perspectives from human factors, human-AI interaction, and research in safety-critical and high-consequence settings, Trust and Transparency in Human-AI Teams will explore emerging challenges and practical approaches to designing more effective and trustworthy human-AI teams.

Speakers include Mica Endsley, president, SA Technologies; Joseph Lyons, senior scientist for Human-Machine Teaming and acting chief scientist, Air Force Office of Scientific Research; and Q. Vera Liao, associate professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Michigan. Discussion will consider how trust is developed and calibrated, how AI systems communicate their capabilities and limitations, and how humans and AI can develop the shared understanding needed for effective coordination and appropriate reliance.
