Program Description

Mr. Lewis will present on his Master’s research thesis which explored the well-being of 104 student service members/veterans (SSM/V) in the context of higher education using a psychosociocultural framework to examine psychological (mattering), social (connectedness and mattering), and cultural (view of self as student in the context of military background) dimensions. Transitioning from military roles into academic settings creates unique challenges for SSM/V. Dustin’s research focused on understanding these challenges, their impact on the well-being of these individuals, and potential solutions for educators, policymakers, and SSM/V support personnel to provide catered programming and effective support to this population. Dustin will discuss trends in the current research on this topic, a summary of his research and results, some takeaways for those interested in the subject, and time for questions and discussion.
