Forty-four years ago this month, Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Recorder of Deeds in Washington, DC, formally establishing the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Inc. Although the history of the I-O psychology profession, and its organization as Division 14 of the American Psychological Association, dates much further back, this date is celebrated throughout SIOP every June.

We invite you to join us as we reminisce about SIOP’s past and imagine its future. Look for opportunities on social media—Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram—to share your memories, fun facts, and predictions about SIOP and I-O psychology.

For inspiration, read some of your colleagues’ I-O Origins stories on LinkedIn and share your own story.

Over the past 4 decades, and even before as Division 14 of the American Psychological Association, we’ve made it our mission to enhance human well-being and performance in organizational and work settings by promoting the science, practice, and teaching of I-O psychology. This anniversary reenergizes us in this goal and we encourage you to reflect on how you use science and practice to transform work, build effective organizations, and promote worker well-being. If you would like to share your story, please fill out our Membership Spotlight Form.
